5 OUR LADY of the ASSUMPTION SCHOOL

Dear Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School Community:

Every day I become more and more impressed with our community, and how it truly is a family! I would like to particularly welcome all our new families. It has been a busy summer, but also a very productive summer. I have several updates to provide you:

1) We have hired a secretary and am finalizing a 1st grade teacher. I still have a couple of positions I am working on resolving: We need to hire an Educational Assistant for Junior Kindergarten. The position is from 7:15 am to 3:15 pm throughout the school year. We are also in need of another individual to serve as a 4-hour Educational Assistant and 1.5 hours in the After-School Program (total 5.5 hours). The hours would be 11:30 am to 5:00 pm throughout the school year.

2) Home School Association (HSA): The primary goal of The HSA is to assist the school in accomplishing its mission. The HSA, under the control and supervision of the Pastor and the Principal, is responsible for promoting cooperation and goodwill between parents and teachers, sponsoring fundraising and social activities and enhancing hospitality by encouraging all members to become involved in HSA activities. This is a vital organization to our school. It is also a great opportunity for parents to help the school and their children in a very meaningful way.

3) Start Time, Beginning of the Day Procedure: One of the things I have been working with various groups on over this summer is an effective start of the daytime and process. I wanted to have a process that was both good for families and for learning. Instruction will be starting at 8:15 am this year. This will be the start of the school day. Students will be expected to be in their seats ready to go. Families should plan on having their students here no later than 8:05 am. We will have supervision available for families starting at 7:15 am in the gymnasium. JK and K families are encouraged to walk their child over to the playground area or have an older sibling take their child over to the playground area. There will be school supervision on the fields and the playground. Parents will also be welcome to hang out with their children on the playground.

Upcoming Events:

August 5 Teachers report to Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School August 9 JK and K Jumpstart (10:00 – 11:30 am) (More details will be provided next week) August 12 First Day of School - Opening of School Ceremony (8:15 am) Early Release Day (11:45 am) No Lunch Served August 15 Solemnity of Our Lady of the Assumption (Mass Day) August 18 Parish Picnic (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) August 21 Curriculum Night (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm)

Uniform Store:

The Uniform Store will be open during the school year from 3:30 to 4:00 pm on Wednesday and from 8:00 to 8:30 am on Thursdays. If you need to schedule a time outside of the above times, please contact Marianne Baca at [email protected].

Thank you for being so warm and welcoming throughout this transition. I am so excited for this school year. It will be a great year for the Our Lady of the Assumption FAMILY!

God Bless!

Mr. Nestorick, Principal
