Marfleet News (May 2017)_Layout 1 28/04/2017 08:58 Page 1 May 2017 Marfleet News Ward news - information about your neighbourhood and community MARFLEET ON THE MOVE Following on from previous successful community bus days Marfleet Councillors will again tour the ward on: FRIDAY 26 MAY 2017 The bus will stop at: l 10 - 11am - Marfleet Lane (layby opposite Ceylon Street) l 11.15am - 12.15pm - Swanfield Road (near the Community Centre) l 12.30 - 14.30pm - Elmbridge Parade The bus will stop at various locations throughout l 14.45 - 15.45pm - Aldi, Preston Road the ward which will allow as many residents as possible to have the opportunity to meet and All the concerns or issues raised by residents discuss any issues with their local councillors, will be discussed and individual residents will be contacted with an update. the Park Area team and representatives from partner agencies. If you have issues you would like to raise, why not come along on Friday 26 May and have a chat with your local Councillors. With funding allocated from the Marfleet Ward Budget, Marfleet Councillors, the Park Area Team and volunteers cleared, dug, planted shrubs and plants and painted the benches to give the gardens a much needed make over and make it a fitting memorial to those who lost their lives in the world wars. The final piece of work will be carried out shortly completing the transformation. We are currently working with the Highways Agency and their contractors to ensure that the gardens are regularly maintained and will continue to monitor the area. There were 342,000 visitors to Hull in the first week alone and with thousands of volunteers helping. Hull 2017 has something for everybody and Look out for the windows in Paragon Station - Season Two: Roots and Routes started with The Train Track and the Basket is made from the wonderful Weeping Window Poppies digitally printed vinyl panels depicting the arrival at the Maritime Museum which has attracted in Hull of more than two million people between thousands of visitors. 1848 - 1914 who arrived by ship from mainland Europe and left Hull a few hours later by train to the transatlantic port of Liverpool. This is part of a year-long programme of temporary artwork which will be installed in public places. Back to Ours - a series of festivals, running from 26 May until 4 June, will see comedy and musical moments right on your doorstep. From Bill Bailey’s Cabinet of Curiosities (May - Sept) at the Maritime through to The Big Malarkey Festival (26 June - 2 July) in East Park, there is something for everybody. The Plan currently incorporates 65 projects to be delivered over the next 10 years, but will continue to develop and evolve as local residents - and everyone who has a stake in Hull’s future - are given the opportunity to contribute their own projects and ideas. l Ferens Art Gallery The £5.2 million refurbishment has been completed and preparation is well underway to host the eagerly anticipated Turner prize in September. The development included improvements to the café, roof light The Plan has five key ambitions including: replacements and basement lighting.
