Thurs 8 Aug – Sun Modern Art Projects Blue Mountains (MAPPING) – Braemar Gallery, 104 Macquarie Road, 1 Sept 2019 Springwood. MAPPING is a contemporary art exhibition that presents a survey of creative art practices of the MAP Blue Mountains members. New works in a wide range of mediums including painting, sculpture, video, performance, sound and installation will be shown in a curated exhibition. Fri 9 Aug – Sun 15 Margaret Flockton Award Exhibition – Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Bells Line of Road, Mt Sept 2019 Tomah. Margaret Flockton was the first botanical illustrator to work at the Royal Botanic Garden . The Margaret Flockton Award honours the enormous contribution Margaret made to early Australian botanical illustration and taxonomic research and encourages outstanding contemporary illustrators to build on this fine tradition. Tuesdays The Art of Chinese Calligraphy – Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, 30 Parke Street, Katoomba. Learn to control a soft brush on rice paper, and use it to form bold yet delicate strokes that 13 Aug – 24 Sept create harmonious and elegant Chinese characters. Sat 28 Sept 2019 Blackheath History Forum: Retelling stories of Aboriginal-settler friendship – moving the conversation along – Blackheath Public School Hall, Corner Leichhardt Street and Great Western Highway. ‘The Lives of Stories’ traces three stories of Aboriginal–settler friendships that intersect with the ways in which Australians remember founding national stories, build narratives for cultural revival, and work on reconciliation and self-determination.
