May 27, 2008 Southern and western provincial parks closed due to flooding

Calgary... Due to recent heavy rains in southern and western some provincial parks and recreation areas are closed and will be assessed for damage to determine next steps. For public safety reasons, Albertans are asked to respect the trail and park closures. At Fish Creek Provincial Park, water is receding, but the following areas remain closed: Mallard Point The pathway along the Bow River by McKenzie Meadows Golf Course Caution is advised along all pathways in the park and in all locations close to the Bow River, as some areas remain slippery. Other park closures include: Beauvais Lake Provincial Park: some sections closed - the campground is open. Beaver Mines Lake Provincial Recreation Area: closed - expected to be accessible by the weekend. Blackstone Provincial Recreation Area: closed until further notice due to access road washout. Castle River Bridge Provincial Recreation Area: closed until water recedes. Castle Falls Provincial Recreation Area: closed until water recedes. Crescent Falls Provincial Recreation Area: lower campground closed - expected to be open this weekend. Falls Provincial Recreation Area: only the lower campground is closed. Peppers Lake Provincial Recreation Area: access to park is available only by Highway 752. Ram Falls Provincial Park: access to park is only available via the Forestry Trunk road south of . Snow Creek Provincial Recreation Area: closed until further notice due to access road washout. Wyndham- Provincial Park: closed - expected to be accessible by the weekend. Kananaskis Country Allen Bill Pond: closed - some sections of pathways underwater. Beaver Flats campground: closed. Heart Creek Day Use Area: closed. Little Elbow campground: closed until further notice due to access road washout. McLean Road: closed due to road washout. North Fork campground: closed until further notice due to access road washout. Paddy’s Flat campground: partial closure of some campground loops. Porcupine Group Camp: closed until further notice due to access road washout. Powderface road: closed at north end due to high water levels along Jumpingpound Creek. Meadows Pond Day Use Area: closed. All other provincial parks and recreation areas in the regions are open.
