From the Desk of Vice Chancellor NDUAT Newsletter Vol.03, No.02 July-September, 2017 From the desk of Vice Chancellor This Newsletter highlights the activities, progress and achievements of the university during the third quarter of 2017. In this quarter we welcomed the new students of B.Sc. (Ag.), B.V.Sc. & A.H., B.Sc. (Hort.), B.F.Sc., B.Tech. (Ag. Engg., Mech. Engg. and Comp. Sc. & Engg.) and B.Sc. (Home Sc.). Apart from these undergraduate programmes, students are also admitted in various PG and Ph.D. programmes. This quarter had been quite exciting for us because we have organized several campaigns i.e. Swachta Pakhwada, Sankalp Se Siddhi- New India Manthan Programme, Swachata Hi Sewa, Parthenium Awareness Week and Nutrition Week along with celebration of important days i.e. Teacher’s day, Gandhi Jayanti, Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jayanti and World Honey Bee day. Since our focus is on transferring the latest scientific findings to the farmers through training and field demonstrations to reduce the cost of cultivation in agriculture and doubling the farmers income by 2022. To achieve the target, all the new technologies developed by university and KVKs are compiled in the form of technology book “Krishak Aay Samvardhan Mein Krishi Vigyan Kendra” which will provide a land mark to the farmers. This quarter eight (8) new KVKs are sanctioned to this university by the Government of India. As a result new technologies could be disseminated to the farmers of remote areas too. A high yielding Linseed variety Narendra Alsi-5 (NDL 2011-33) has been identified for release by the Central Variety Identification Committee for cultivation under moist stress (UTERA) condition which may increase the oilseed production in eastern U.P. I am happy to inform you that the Government of Uttar Pradesh has sanctioned Rs. 2.0 crores for this year to establish “Centre of Excellence in Rice” at the University to improve productivity of rainfed lowland and also in irrigated ecosystems. A new project on “Creation of Seed Hub” for increasing indigenous production of pulses in India with a financial support of Rs. 1.5 crores is also initiated. A four members Impact Assessment Team was constituted by ICAR for the visit of the university on 10th and 11th August, 2017 to assess and review the utilization of the budget of Central Assistance funded by ICAR and its impact on Teaching, Research and Extension in the last 5 years. Over the years, the organization has attempted to bring about meaningful social change in partnership with government, corporates and civil society. From inception, REACHA effort was always to see how government work can reach the ground level and make impact in lives of people and promote environment conservation. In earlier days, much of the work was voluntary, and advocacy was used to achieve desired objectives. With the coming of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from 1st April 2014 as a mandated expense for qualifying companies, funds were available to achieve the same objectives. Corporate India has been more than willing to partner REACHA to complement and supplement government projects/work. Infact, the very intent and objective of the CSR legislation is to see how corporate India can partner nation building efforts along with government and civil society – by sharing its expertise in technology, project management, innovation etc.
