Sustainable Packaging Scorecard Testing and Certification

NSF Testing Services NSF International is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to improving public health and safety and the environment. In the area of Sustainability, NSF supports your sustainability program with services ranging from packaging testing and reviews to management systems registration and product certification.

NSF’s ISO 17025/ISO 14001 chemistry, microbiology and engineering laboratories offer a wide range of services to address your packaging testing needs. In addition to specific tests listed below, NSF provides testing and certification to industry standards, and has full Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club packaging scorecard support capabilities.

Compostability testing (reference ASTM D6400 and D6868) and disintegration testing are conducted at NSF’s Michigan-based laboratory. NSF also provides test method development where standards do not exist, as well as consulting in all of these areas.

Environmental Impact Analysis – NSF offers several programs to help clients understand and reduce environmental impact. Programs include environmentally preferable product registration, material formulation review and testing and CleanGredients™ reviews.

Sustainable Solutions Planning – NSF offers several validation/registration services, including Greenhouse Gas Validation/Verification, ISO 14001, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and Chain of Custody certification and sustainability report verification.

Product and Sustainability Certification – NSF independent certifications provide clients with the most credible “green” claims available in the marketplace today. Services include sustainable product and packaging verifications, electrical energy usage testing, and indoor air quality testing.

Organic Certification – NSF provides organic certification for restaurants, retailers and fiber manufacturers, to ensure that the organic integrity of food and fiber products is preserved from seed to shelf.

Process/Supply Chain Verification – NSF offers several services in this area, including supply chain audits, chain of custody for paper and wood fiber, sustainability management systems audits and SQF (Safe Quality Food) certification.
