The 41-year-old native of Portsmouth, Ohio, first joined forces with Kyle Busch and the No. 18 M&M’S/Interstate Batteries Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) at the start of the 2015 Cup Series season and, in the relatively short time since, has led all competitors with two series championships and 27 victories in 169 races together through the 2019 campaign. I always enjoy attending the annual meetings of the RNA Society, but this year’s meeting in Kyoto was a standout in my opinion. This marked the second time that the RNA meeting has been held in Kyoto as a joint meeting with the RNA Society of Japan. (The first time was in 2011). Particular thanks go to the local organizers Mikiko Siomi and Tom Suzuki who took care of many logistical details, and to all of the organizers, Mikiko, Tom, Utz Fischer, Wendy Gilbert, David Lilley and Erik Sontheimer, for putting together a truly exciting and stimulating scientific program. Of course, the real excitement in the annual RNA meetings comes from all of you who give the talks and present the posters. I always enjoy meeting old friends and colleagues, but the many new participants in this year’s meeting particularly encouraged me. With a firm financial foundation in place, we have been able to erect beautiful, green facilities that have enhanced programs and student learning across all three divisions. The Tiger Center provides the educational resources that we have come to expect from a world class fitness center. The construction of the Black Box Theater has already enriched our performing arts program in the upper school. By moving upper school classrooms into the new buildings, we have been able to expand our middle and lower school facilities. The middle school, now with a stronger educational culture and identity, extends vertically over four floors. Like the middle school, the lower school is now characterized by its customized, dedicated learning spaces. A growth in space means a growth in programs. Most impressive is the introduction of a middle school competitive sports program. This comprehensive competitive sports program prepares our students to be capable athletes and gracious competitors at the upper school level and in life. Our programs continue to excel in other areas as well. Public speaking, serves as an example of program excellence that has grown for TAS students.
