Head Coach Elie Monteiro

Elie Monteiro enters his fourth year as head coach of the women's soccer team and aims to bring the program into the upper echelon of the Northeast-10 Conference and New England Region. Monteiro and the River Hawks took a huge step toward that goal last year as UML enjoyed its best season in school history (9-10-1, 6-7-1 NE-10) and advanced to the postseason for the first time. Along the way, the River Hawks established several school records, including wins, games (20) and goals in a season (33). The rise of the UML women's soccer program began in 2003, when, despite a 4- 10-1 record, UML emerged as a defensive force. The River Hawks established a school record for shutouts in a season (five) and tied the school mark for goals allowed in a season (28). UML suffered four losses by a score of 1-0 and a double overtime deadlock against Pace (0-0). Previously, Monteiro served as an assistant coach with the UML men's and women's teams for two years and spent three years as an assistant at NE-10 rival Franklin Pierce College. While with the UML men's program, Monteiro helped the River Hawks to a 23-15-3 clip (.561) and consecutive postseason appearances. Prior to his arrival at UML, Monteiro enjoyed a three-year stint as the women’s assistant coach at Franklin Pierce, helping the Ravens to NCAA Division II champion- ships in 1997 and 1999, as well as the NCAA Tournament semifinals in 1998. He helped FPC to an astounding three-year record of 62-2-0 (.969). After graduating from Southern New Hampshire University in 1996, Monteiro enjoyed a six-year professional career as a starting defender with the Phantoms of New Hampshire of the United Soccer Leagues (USL). He helped the Phantoms to a six-year clip of 102-60-6 (.607), which includes an appearance in the USL national semifinal in 1997 and the USL championship match in 1998. He was named to the USL All-Tournament Team both years. In 2001, Monteiro received his 'C' coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). He is also in the midst of his third season as head coach of the Lady Phantoms of New Hampshire of the USL W2 League. Monteiro was a two-year standout for the Southern New Hampshire University men's soccer team and helped the Penmen to a two-year clip of 30-6-2 and an appearance in the 1995 NCAA Tournament. He received his degree in sports IT'S A PRIVILIGE TO BE RIVER HAWK management. Previously, Monteiro was a two-year standout at Massasoit Community College where he earned All-New England Region honors as a senior and led the Warriors to the NJCAA Tournament semifinals. En route, Monteiro was named the defensive most valuable player of the New England Regional championship. Born in Dakar, Senegal, Monteiro was raised in Brockton, MA. He currently lives in Manchester, NH, with his wife, Claudine, and their daughter, Isabella Rose (3) and son, Sebastian (1). THE COACHING STAFF
