Opening Hymn “How Firm a Foundation” (Verses 1 & 2) page 796

Confession and Forgiveness P: In the name of the Father, and of the † Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. P: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid, cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, so that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ, our Lord. C: Amen. P: Let us confess our sins to God the Father, and receive his forgiveness. P: Most merciful God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. P: In His mercy, Almighty God has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the forgiveness of your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the † Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen.

Greeting P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you.

Prayer of the Day: Living God, your Son, Jesus Christ, is the way, the truth, and the life. Grant us the grace to follow him and live lives of servanthood and truth; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

WORD Children’s Sermon Rev. Phillips

The First Lesson Acts 6 1Now during those days, when the disciples were increasing in number, the Hellenists complained against the Hebrews because their widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of food. 2And the twelve called together the whole community of the disciples and said, “It is not right that we should neglect the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3Therefore, friends, select from among yourselves seven men of good standing, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint to this task, 4while we, for our part, will devote ourselves to prayer and to serving the word.” 5What they said pleased the whole community, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte of Antioch. 6They had these men stand before the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. 7The word of God continued to spread; the number of the disciples increased greatly in , and a great many of the priests became obedient to the faith. 8Stephen, full of grace and power, did great wonders and signs among the people. 9Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and others of those from Cilicia and Asia, stood up and argued with Stephen. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

Psalm 146 1Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! 2I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God all my life long. 3Do not put your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. 4When their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. 5Happy are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God, 6who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps faith forever; 7who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; 8the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. 9The Lord watches over the strangers; he upholds the orphan and the widow, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin. 10The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the Lord!

The Second Lesson 1 Peter 2 2Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation— 3if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4Come to him, a living stone, though rejected by mortals yet chosen and precious in God’s sight, and 5like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6For it stands in scripture: “See, I am laying in Zion a stone, a cornerstone chosen and precious; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.” 7To you then who believe, he is precious; but for those who do not believe, “The stone that the builders rejected has become the very head of the corner,” 8and “A stone that makes them stumble, and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do. 9But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, in order that you may proclaim the mighty acts of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. L: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel P: The Gospel is written in the 14th chapter of St. John C: Glory to you, O Lord. 1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may be also. 4And you know the way to the place where I am going.” 5Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father ex- cept through me. 7If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if you do not, then believe me because of the works themselves. 12Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. 13I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it. P: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

Prayers of Intercession P: Lord, in your mercy. C: Hear our prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

The Peace of Christ THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION All are welcome to receive the Lord's Body and Blood who are baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and believe that Jesus Christ, crucified, risen and ascended, is truly present in, with and under the forms of bread and wine for the forgiveness of sins, life and salvation. (Grape juice is available in the center ring of individual cups)

Exhortation Brothers and sisters in Christ, to receive this Holy Sacrament in a worthy manner, consider what we must now believe and do: We should believe that Jesus Christ himself is truly present in the bread and wine as his words declare: This is my body, which is given for you; this is my blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sin. We should also trust that Jesus Christ forgives our sins as his words promise: for the forgiveness of sin. Finally, we should do as Christ commands when he says: Take. Eat. Drink. Do this in remembrance of me. When we repent, believe these words, and do as Christ commands, then we have rightly examined ourselves and may worthily come to the Lord’s ta- ble for the forgiveness of all our sins. Together, we should also give thanks to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ for this great gift. We should love one another with a pure heart, and with the whole Christian church take comfort and joy in Christ our Lord. May our heavenly Father grant us his grace; through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. (Please Stand)

The Great Thanksgiving P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give him thanks and praise.

Preface for the Day P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places, give thanks… with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven, to sing the hymn of your unending praise: The Sanctus C: Holy, holy, holy Lord, Lord God of power and might: Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the high- est. P: Our Lord Jesus, on the night in which he was betrayed, took bread...do this in remembrance of me.”

Again, after supper he took the cup...Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as we eat of this bread and drink from this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes again. P: This is the gift of God for his people. Christ our Lord invites you to his table.

Please be seated. Ushers will direct you to communion. If you are unable to come forward to receive communion, please inform an usher so that we may bring communion to you.

Holy Communion “Lamb of God” Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; grant us peace, grant us peace.

The Sacrament is offered and received with these words: P: The body of Christ, given for you. C: Amen. P: The blood of Christ, shed for you. C: Amen.

Please take time to pray and reflect on God’s forgiveness and love which you have received in the body and blood of Jesus Christ. (Please stand)

P: The body of our Lord Jesus Christ and his precious blood strengthen and preserve you in true faith to everlasting life. C: Amen. P: Let us pray: Gracious God, our heavenly Father, you have given us a foretaste of the feast to come in the Holy Supper of Your Son’s body and blood. Keep us firm in the true faith throughout our days of pilgrimage, so that, on the day of His coming, we may, together with all Your saints, celebrate the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom which has no end; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forev- er. Amen. (The Lutheran Service Book, p. 166).

During this uncertain time, the Red Cross encourages healthy individuals to make an appointment to give blood to help keep a stable blood supply throughout this pandemic. There is no known end date in this fight against coronavirus & the Red Cross needs the help of donors to ensure blood products are readily available for weeks to come. It’s important to remember that blood is perisha- ble and cannot be stockpiled. The Red Cross has also been working around the clock to collect & dis- tribute hundreds of convalescent plasma products, a potentially lifesaving treatment for critically ill COVID-19 patients.
