Tsongas Arena/Center Facts and Firsts

On January 26, 2018 the Tsongas Center celebrated its 20th anniversary. The building owned jointly by the city and the state, at the time, opened, as the Tsongas Arena, on January 27, 1998 as Dartmouth defeated UMass Lowell, 2-1, in overtime in the first event of any sort to take place in the venue. Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, joined on ice by her family, did as she had twenty years ago and officiate at the ceremonial puck drop.UMass Lowell is 198-149-37 all-time in the building now owned by the university.
