Schwerin cable manufacturer growing Die Prysmian Kabel und Systeme GmbH (PKS GmbH) expands its operating facility

PKS GmbH is part of the Prysmian Group with its head office in Berlin. The company manufactures spe- cial cables for industry and energy suppliers as well as cables for general installations at five facilities in Germany. PKS has been based in Schwerin for many years. Now, more than 200 people work here. The ex- isting factory for the production of innovative hybrid cables was expanded in 2018. The new cables are a combination of glass fibre and copper and a vital com- ponent in the steady digitisation of our economy.

A total of 15.45 million euros was invested in opening up this new line of business. The Ministry for Eco- nomics supported the project with around 2.3 million euros from funds in the joint scheme for “improving the regional economic structure”. So far 12 new jobs have been created as a result. Harry Glawe, Minister of Economic Affairs, Employment and Health in MV, welcomed the expansion of the plant which fosters stability in the area. He notes that the demand for hy- brid cables with glass fibre technology will continue to rise due to rising digitisation requirements.

With Germany Trade & Invest on a roadshow through China

Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) is the economic devel- opment agency for the Federal Republic of Germany. With over 360 employees in 50 locations around the world and a strong network of partners, the agency supports German companies on their path abroad, promotes Germany as a location and assists for- eign companies wishing to establish themselves in Germany.

As part of the regional promotion of the eastern States (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Brandenburg), the GTAI organised a roadshow entitled “China meets Germany”. Together with Invest in MV, the towns of Chengdu and Hefei were visited. Around 80 delegates from local compa- nies took part in each location, signalling their desire to expand into Europe. During two days of presenta- tions and three visits to the Chinese companies of Dongfang Electric, Doppler (lifts) and Meling (fridges), the visitors from Germany were also able to gain a close-up impression of the enormous potential of the country. Work on the ground was coordinated with the Chambers of Commerce in both regions.
