BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News [email protected]

Approximately 170 members of the 41st graduating class of Gulf Breeze High School packed into five buses Saturday night to participate in Project Graduation at The Wharf. It was the first time GBHS Project Graduation traveled to Orange Beach. Gulf Shores has been a popular spot for GBHS’ Project Grad in recent years (The Track 2003, ‘04 and ‘06, Waterville in 2008 and ‘09 and The Hangout in 2010). GBHS Project Grad 2012 had a Hawaiian theme, with each bus being named after a Jason Thompson/Gulf Breeze News Hawaiian island. Among the activities offered Oahu was one of five buses that made the one -hour trip to Orange Beach Saturday. were volleyball, swimming, and of course, eating food. Jay Martin, who was at last year’s Project Grad as a member of the Class of 2011, deejayed, while Michael C. Anthony came back for the second straight year and stole the show as the hypnotist. Project Graduation is a pro- gram offered by many high schools in the United States, in which organized, adult-super- vised and alcohol-free activities are offered as part of a post- graduation party, in lieu of stu- dent-run events with alcohol or drugs. Events often last through the night and are held in hotels or community centers. Students are checked for illicit substances before entry and are carefully monitored.
