SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 149

A RESOLUTION

To commend on being named to the 2013 Sports Hall of Fame

Induction Class.

WHEREAS, each year Louisiana's sports writers select a limited number of athletes, past or present, who have become figures of national renown to be regarded as the state's immortals in the sphere of athletics and enshrined in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, the 2013 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Class includes Mathews native and football star Tommy Hodson; and

WHEREAS, recognition of Mr. Hodson's athletic skills and talents first received attention during his time at Central Lafourche High School where he played both football, guiding the Trojans to a 13-1 record his senior year, and basketball, averaging 27.4 points per game his senior year, and was recruited by several colleges in both sports; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hodson arrived at Louisiana State University as part of the 1985 football signing class, and in 1986, began his illustrious career as a four-year starting , leading the team to a 31-14-1 overall record; and

WHEREAS, while Mr. Hodson was involved in many incredible plays and games while at LSU, fan favorites will include LSU's 1986 victory over seventh-ranked Texas

A&M and later Notre Dame, both in Tiger Stadium, and the title, the 1987 victory over South Carolina, and the 1988 victory over fourth-ranked

Auburn in Tiger Stadium known as "The " because the fans' reaction to the

Hodson to Eddie Fuller pass scoring the winning touchdown in the final seconds of the game caused vibrations to register as an earthquake on a seismograph machine located near the stadium in LSU's Howe-Russell Geoscience Complex; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hodson was named four times as All-SEC quarterback and still holds several LSU records including all-time leading passer with 9,115 yards, most yards per game over a career (203.1), career touchdown passes (69), attempts (1,163) and completions (967); and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hodson was selected in the third round of the 1990 National

Football League draft by the and played seven seasons for four NFL teams, finishing his career with the Saints; and

WHEREAS, to this day, Tommy Hodson remains beloved by LSU fans for leading the Tigers to two SEC Championship titles, the first title ending a seventeen-year dry spell, and their first bowl victory in seven years; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hodson truly possesses the character, skills and talents worthy of being named to the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Tommy Hodson on being named to the 2013

Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Induction Class.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to

Tommy Hodson.
