W. Edwin Mims photograph collection Descriptive Summary Repository: Georgia Historical Society Creator: Mims, W. Edwin. Title: W. Edwin Mims photograph collection Dates: 1886-1967 Extent: 0.75 cubic feet (2 boxes) Identification: MS 1692 Biographical/Historical Note A mechanical engineer with Seaboard Coastline Railroad, W. Edwin Mims has had a lifelong connection to railroads; his father, W.H. Mims, was a mechanical engineer for the Central of Georgia railroad. Scope and Content Note This collection consists of photographs relating to the Central of Georgia Railroad, dating 1886-1967, with some undated images. Most of the photos are of engines; however there are a few images of shops and yards. Photos of named trains include the "Nancy Hanks II" and the 'Southwind." The photographs in this collection are all copy prints; there are no original photos. These copy prints were reproduced from several photograph albums compiled by W. Edwin Mims. The albums contain photographs purchased from various railroad collections, photographs taken by his father, W. H. Mims, and photos taken by W. E. Mims himself. The collection inventory has been sorted in three ways: by locomotive number, by date of photograph, and by location of photograph. A few of the photographs have additional information photocopied from the original Mims albums. A list of those photos follows this finding aid. A second list records the original source, if known, for many of the photographs. The following abbreviations are used in the inventories: BLW= Baldwin Locomotive Works CGA=Central of Georgia CGAHS=Central of Georgia Historical Society CRRBC=Central Rail Road and Banking Company of Georgia Historical Society LLW=Lima (Ohio) Locomotive Works Index Terms Central of Georgia Railway.
