Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona Celebrates Its Endorsed Candidates Primary Wins

PRESS RELEASE Contact: Tayler Tucker, 602-263-4225, [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 31, 2016 Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona Celebrates its Endorsed Candidates Primary Wins Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona congratulates Tuesday’s primary winners, especially our targeted State Senate candidates who elevated women’s health as a campaign issue. We are proud of the victorious campaign run by Sen. Martin Quezada for re-election for his senate seat in legislative district 29. It is clear that Sen. Quezada’s positive message and embodiment of Democratic values resonated with voters. PPAA’s Bryan Howard remarked, “We are so grateful to Senator Quezada for his work on comprehensive, inclusive sex education that helps keep all Arizona kids safe. District 29 voters have made a strong statement of support for women’s health and advocacy for full inclusion of LGBTQ citizens in our society. PPAA looks forward to working with Sen. Quezada in January to repeal laws that shame or marginalize students.” PPAA also extends congratulations to endorsed candidate Jamescita Peshlakai who appears to have won her primary in the District 7 Senate primary race; and to Senate Candidate Maritza Miranda Saenz who, although unsuccessful in the District 27 Senate primary, fought hard to highlight issues of women’s health and security. “We are proud of the message our endorsed candidates continue to carry in this election cycle,” continued Howard, “and we still see a path to our goal of a 15-15 tie in the Arizona Senate.” Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona salutes its other victorious endorsed candidates across the state, including: District 2: Incumbent Rep. Regular Meeting Agenda Item 7B February 16, 2021 Action Item Adoption of the Fiscal Year 2019-20 Expenditure Limitation Report Recommendation: Approve adoption of the audited Expenditure Limitation Report for fiscal year 2019-20. Summary: In 1980, Arizona voters approved Arizona Constitution, Article IX, §20, prescribing an expenditure limitation for political subdivisions. The expenditure limitation’s purpose initially was intended to control expenditures of local revenues and limit future increases in spending to adjustments for inflation and population growth. For the College, the population growth is student enrollment known as Full Time Student Equivalents (FTSE). The Constitution required the Economic Estimates Commission (Commission) to establish a base limit from actual expenditures of “local” revenues for fiscal year 1980. Each year, the Commission calculates the constitutional expenditure limitation based on a complex formula accounting for inflation and estimated FTSE. The annual budgeted expenditure limitation report (ABELR) is presented as prescribed by the uniform expenditure reporting system (UERS), as required by Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) §41-1279.07. The ABELR excludes expenditures of certain revenues specified in the Arizona Constitution, Article IX, §21, and A.R.S. §§15-792.03, 15-795.01, 15-1444, and 15-1472, as applicable, from the total budgeted expenditures. The information reported in both the ABELR and the financial statements is derived from the same underlying accounting data. However, the formats of the ABELR and the financial statements differ. The ABELR presents budgeted expenditures, exclusions, and amounts subject to the limitation by fund type as required by A.R.S. §41-1279.07. 2021 Influencing Your Decision Makers Who is making decisions that affect you? What issues are being decided? Why is your role in the process important? Where can you make a difference? How can you engage others to influence the decision? INFLUENCE It’s up to us to be agents of change for our colleagues, our schools and our students. Educators will get out of politics just as soon as politicians get out of education. Elected ocials determine our salaries, set student testing requirements, and appropriate funds for districts to purchase classroom resources and hire support sta. ey underfund our schools, overcrowd our classrooms, and then tie teacher evaluations to standardized test scores. Politicians make too many decisions for us to sit idly by. AEA members actively meet their legislators, state oce holders, and governing board members to share our stories of working in public schools. Members also make voluntary donations to e AEA Fund for Public Education, our political action committee (PAC), to support candidates and elected ocials who support our values and who stand up for children and public schools. In 2020, AEA members passed the Invest In Education Act, helped elect US Senator Mark Kelly, sent AEA member and former Teacher of the Year Christine Marsh to the Arizona Senate, and gave Betsy DeVos her walking papers. By donating to the AEA Fund, your contribution is added to those of your colleagues to inuence decisions that aect all of us and our professions. Arizona educators were change agents in the 2020 elections, and we must be ready to build on that success in the years ahead.
