Chairman of the Board Dear friends, 2004 was an exciting year for the Tampa General Hospital Foundation as it celebrated its 30th anniversary. Since 1974, the Foundation has remained committed to supporting the advancement of medical excel- lence in this community. The Foundation has strived to be an effective “friend raiser,” while it has also been a fundraiser with more than 5,000 donors having made contributions to the Foundation over its history. Through the generosity of our friends and benefactors, we raised $6.7 million for fiscal year 2004 (July 1, 2003 to June 30, 2004). Although many of these funds will be directed toward the hospital’s current expansion project through the “Building on Excellence” campaign, the Foundation still provided $770,000 toward various hospital programs, projects and services. The following pages demonstrate the growing support of Tampa General Hospital and the evolution of this organization as a substantial source of funding. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I wish to thank all of our donors for sharing their good intentions and generosity with Tampa General Hospital ---a true crown jewel of this community. Thank You, Mark A. Nouss Chairman II 2004 Special Events SIGNATURE EVENTS – A GREAT WAY TO GET INVOLVED Our signature events are a wonderful way to raise funds for the hospital. The continuing community outreach and relationship building that result from these events are as important as the funds raised. Each event adds new friends and supporters and increases awareness of Tampa General Hospital’s programs and services. The TGH Foundation is proud to produce three signature events each year to benefit the programs and services of TGH. Don, Erika & Donny Wallace, “Big Top Sponsors” at the 13th Annual “Night at the Circus.” 13th Annual “Night at the Circus” Feld Entertainment’s Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey® Circus presented our 13th Annual “Night at the Circus” at the St. Pete Times Forum on January 8, 2004. The event raised $128,000 in net proceeds for the Pediatric Emergency Care Center at TGH. Toni Hoover, the 2004 circus chairperson, helped continue a great tradition of strong leadership for the circus committee. From countless hours in the Foundation office to her constant representation of the Foundation throughout the community, Toni helped raise awareness about this extraordinary project and cause. The 2004 “Moments in Time” Gala Our 7th Annual “Moments in Time” Gala was a huge success. The “60’s Beach Bash” took place at the new Harbour Island home of Ron & Beverly Bailey on May 1, 2004. Centered are McIver Berner, Ron Bailey, and Stacey Packer at the 2004 “Moments in Guests arrived by yacht and enjoyed unique culinary presentations in the exquisite Time” Beach Bash. surroundings of this tropical oasis. The event surpassed the Foundation’s goal by netting $145,000 for the Level I Trauma Center at TGH. Our 2004 co-chairs, Debra Roberts and McIver Berner, pulled out all the stops for this party and exercised their creativity on this event. Working with the largest committee in the Foundation, they energized volunteers and executed a complex event that entertained guests throughout the evening. The 6th Annual Golf Tournament In its sixth year, this exclusive event surpassed the Foundation’s goal by netting $174,000. Held on October 25, 2004 at Old Memorial Golf Club, 80 golfers enjoyed beautiful weather and excellent course conditions. This year, we received a commitment for the tournament sponsorship from the “Friends and Family of Sam Stallworth.” This represented an effort by Sam’s wife, 6th Annual Golf Tournament Major Sponsor Shelley Stallworth, to honor her late husband and thank the hospital that cared “Friends and Family of Sam Stallworth.” for him in his final days. A portion of the proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit the Tampa General Hospital Foundation's Unrestricted Fund, which is used to support a variety of programs and services at Tampa General Hospital. III A portion will also benefit MORE HEALTH, Inc., Tampa General’s health education and injury prevention program, which provides a variety of health lessons to more than 120,000 students in Hillsborough County public and private schools. The returning event co-chairs, Joe Taggart and Al Silva, provided exceptional support to the planning committee. Their professional contributions are key to the tournament’s success. Other Annual Events Include: 2004 Annual Dinner The Foundation celebrated its 30th anniversary at our Annual Dinner held on October 7, at Palma Ceia Country Club. In honor of this milestone, a special award was presented to Ron Hytoff, President and CEO of TGH. The award recognized the outstanding achievements of Mr. Hytoff, whose actions have significantly furthered the mission of the TGH Foundation. He took on the TGH presidency in 2000 during a time of severe fiscal straits and oversaw the hospital’s dramatic financial turnaround. The Tampa Bay Lightning was presented with The James M. “Red” McEwen award, named after a TGH Foundation founder, for their efforts, good works, and service that contributed most significantly to the betterment of Tampa General Hospital. “This organization has adopted Tampa General Auxiliary President Mary Jo Hart presents Hospital. Gibbons Humanitarian Award for embodying the “spirit, enthusiasm, and commitment of Mrs. Gibbons,” a charter member of the Auxiliary in 1952. Mrs. Beall has volunteered more than 5,000 hours to the hospital. White Coat Mini-Internship Program TGH’s White Coat Mini-Internship Program allows community and business leaders to experience a major teaching hospital from an insider’s point of view. Each intern is paired with a TGH physician for an entire day. Nothing is prearranged or “sugar coated.” The intern accompanies their physician every- where – on rounds, in patient consultations, and even in the operating room. Our goal is to give the interns a real day-in-the-life of a physician – the intensity, the drama and the complexity. It is an opportunity to demonstrate the USF President, Judy Genshaft, White Coat expertise of our physicians and staff, and also their humanity. The White Coat Program “Intern” with Dr. Sally Houston. Program was held three times in 2004 with twenty-six interns completing the program. One hundred fifty-one interns have completed the program since its inception at the hospital in the spring of 2000. IV 2004 Special People Don and Erika Wallace Don and Erika are well known for their tireless efforts to improve the com- munity through their generous philanthropic support and civic involvement. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace have been loyal supporters of Tampa General for years and have made its programs and services a priority. In 2004, the Foundation was very fortunate when Mr. Wallace agreed to deliver the keynote speech at our “Building on Excellence” campaign kick-off. This year, the Foundation was honored, privileged and thrilled to be the recipient of the Wallaces’ outstanding generosity when the Don and Erika Wallace Family Foundation committed $1 million to the “Building on Excellence” campaign. This gift has helped us to raise more than $8 million dollars to date towards our $10 million goal. In addition to the Capital Campaign, the Don and Erika Wallace Family Foundation has generously supported the Annual “Night at the Circus” event, distributing 1,000 circus tickets to local charities and employees of Lazydays RV Center, Inc. Don and Erika are also major sponsors of the Annual “Moments In Time” Gala and Annual Golf Tournament at Old Memorial.
