Happy February! I was delighted to see many children at services on the last Friday of December. These “children” ranged in age from a 3-week-old to several post-college kids, and even included a few “children” who have already retired. Each came to Shalom with family to share in the celebration of Shabbat. It’s lovely to see multiple generations continuing our traditions and maintaining their connections to our community. It’s why we’re here! When we invest in the lives of our children, they return that investment by coming home to spend time with us. When we invest in our congregational community, the warmth of our traditions draws new families in and brings old families back. Thank you for your help in maintaining Shalom, where we help keep kids connected to their families and to our Jewish past and future. Congregation Shalom allows us to set good examples for our children. Shalom offers ways to practice and Tikkun Olam, and inspires us to be our best selves. We are reminded to be fair and kind and to think of others. We aim to be righteous not only because it is the right thing to do, but because we are part of something greater than just ourselves. Give your loved ones the gift of Shalom, the gift of membership in a caring community. And give all of us the gift of your presence in our congregation! Please join us at one of our upcoming events, like the Young At Hearts Seniors Group, Blue Jean/Family Shabbat and dinner, Temple for Toddlers, or any of our Lunch n'Learns led by our engaging clergy. And get your costume ready for Purim! For details see the weekly email blast, or our monthly bulletin the Shofar, or go to our website. If all else fails, call the friendly people who answer our phones! I hope to see you soon!
