As Detroit reinvents itself, so TechTown works to reinvent Detroit. In 2000, TechTown Detroit was founded in partnership with Wayne State University, and General Motors Corporation. WHO WE ARE: Originally created to serve as a catalyst for technology- based innovations, TechTown recognized the critical importance of both technology and neighborhood- based work. In 2009, TechTown redefined its vision to respond to Detroit’s need for economic restructuring following the recession. TechTown and its partners made a commitment to completely change the culture in Detroit, from one of single-industry dependence to LABS tech-based programs entrepreneurial independence.
