There’s a saying: when a writer is born, a family dies. “I’m that guy,” says Benjamin Law. Of course, that’s not strictly the case. Law may have turned his experiences of growing up in a large Asian Australian family on Queensland’s extremely Anglo Sunshine Coast into a memoir – and that memoir may have spawned a television comedy series starring characters named after and modelled on his actual family, featuring things that actually happened to them, both painful and amusing – but the backlash has been minimal, at least in real life. When we meet on set for season two – in a stinking hot warehouse in Brisbane – he has both families to contend with. The real Law family are trickling in for their opening episode cameo – something they did in the first season, too. It’s also the birthday of one of the cast members – Trystan Go, who plays teenage Ben – and the warehouse is buzzing with activity. In fact, there are so many layers of Laws in the building that I am starting to feel dizzy. The actors playing the on-screen family call each other by their screen names between takes, with the on-screen children calling their on-screen parents “mum” and “dad” in everyday life. When I ask now 15-year-old Go what his real mother thinks about this, he says she’d probably prefer not to comment.

From cultural comparisons we can know more things in detail. It will give people more ideas and help to start business between two countries. Most of Chinese people like to do business with a country they are familiar with. In recent years, China began to deal with Finland in trade and business to establish cooperation between the two countries. To China Finland is a new country, so it is necessary to introduce the Finnish business culture to Chinese people to let them know more about Finland. Conversely, the Chinese business culture also needs to be introduced to Finnish people. In this way, both sides can know more about the other party. I will introduce some facts and figures about the two countries, and compare the Finnish and Chinese business cultures. The business culture comparison can be divided two parts. One part is the academic one, the other part is practical. The academic part includes the theory of business culture and facts and figures of the two countries. The practical part includes the research process, findings and conclusions. I made my interview questions based on the theory part. In order to choose a good company for my practical part I listed some famous companies in Finland and in China.

Background In November 2014, the Australian Academy of Science (AAS) hosted the SAGE Forum, bringing together over 140 experts from around Australia who discussed areas of critical impact on gender equity in STEMM. The unanimous consensus was that concerted action is required immediately across the sector. The key recommendation of the Forum was to undertake the Australian Pilot of the Athena SWAN Charter. Athena SWAN is a renowned UK program providing an evaluation and accreditation framework for gender equity and gender diversity issues in STEMM.

    June 2012 GROWING THE FAMILY TREE: CONNECTING GENERATIONS IN MULTICULTURAL FAMILIES FORUM Summary of Key Issues and Recommendations Background On Thursday 3rd May 2012, the City of Sydney, Relationships Australia NSW and the Ethnic Communities’ Council of NSW presented a discussion forum on intergenerational conflict in multicultural families. The forum was held at NSW Parliament House and was hosted by the Hon. Victor Dominello MP and facilitated by SBS Journalist Peta-Jane Madam. The event featured a panel of speakers from diverse backgrounds including Co-ordinator of Relationships Australia NSW Humanitarian Entrants Program Rahat Chowdhury; former refugee from Iraq Sam Almaliki; Above: (Right to Left) Peta-Jane Madam, Founding Advisor of African Women Australia Inc. Conflict between generations is a significant issue in multicultural families. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in 2006, 26% of people born in Australia had at least one overseas-born parent (ABS 2008). Of these, 44% had both parents born overseas (ABS 2008). Although intergenerational conflict is not unique to multicultural families, research shows that the migration or refugee experience can have a profound impact on family dynamics. Raising a family in a new environment and growing up in a society with diferent values, cultural norms and expectations to one’s parents can be major stressors and cause tension within the family home (Multicultural Youth Afairs Network NSW 2011b).

    'W'1 REPORTING PHILOSOPHY This Annual Report presents a selection of highlights to illustrate CSIRO's progress in achieving its principal goal of conducting research to benefit Australia. Our aims are to demonstrate the range of our work and to indicate how it can contribute to the nation's wealth or quality of life. A more comprehensive account of our research activities can be found in the annual CSIRO Directory of Research Programs, which is available both electronically (on the AUSTRALIS database) and as a book (CSIRO Bookshop, 314 Albert St, East Melbourne, Vic 3002). More detailed information is also published regularly by CSIRO Divisions. We also report on major policy decisions and operational activities that support the conduct of research. Modern science is being transformed by exciting developments in molecular biology. Our growing understanding ofthe basic building blocks oflife holds great promise for the future. New agricultural products free of harmful chemical residues and new vaccines and medications against diseases that afflictpeople and animals are alreadya reality. CSIRO is at the forefront of this progress with the Gene Shears breakthrough, as well as advances in vaccine technologies. The picture on the front covershows a crystal formed by binding a fragmentofDNA (deoxyribonudeic acid) with the antibiotic, Nogalamycin. Nucleic acids—DNA and RNA (ribonudeic add) — embody the genetic code, thus playing a central role in the transmission of hereditary characteristics.
