If you are based in New South Wales and are anxious to inspect any one or all of the Benstud fillies located north of the Victorian border you need to get moving.

On March 18th Benstud will be moving eight fillies to Victoria to enable the final polish to be put on these outstandingly bred and put-together yearlings. Each of the eight fillies is NSW Breeders Challenge eligible and a number of them are also Vicbred eligible, Australasian Breeders Crown and Bathurst Gold Crown eligible.

While the Nutrien Sale isn’t until the 10th and 11th of April the fillies will be photographed and filmed for the Nutrien interactive on-line catalogue so that if you aren’t able to make it before the 18th of March you can catch up at the Nutrien website.

Each of the eight fillies has outstanding credentials to make a top-flight race-horse and they also have longer term residual value as next generation broodmares.

Lot 172 is a filly by boom young sire Captaintreacherous who sired his third Australasian Group One winning 2yo when Montana D J won the Cardigan Bay Stakes at Alexandra Park in Auckland on March 5th.

Montana D J was the first Captaintreacherous colt to win a Group One 2yo race as his other two Group One winning juveniles were fillies in Tough Tilly (2yo Vicbred Super Series) and Treachery (The Allwood).

His first crop of 112 Australasian foals are currently 3yos and he has 52 downunder winners (46.43% winners/foals) with more than nine months of the season still to go. 11AM - 1PM YEARLING TOUR AT BENSTUD WITH BBQ & LIGHT REFRESHMENTS CONTACT CRAIG JUDD FOR CATERING NUMBERS PH 0458 658 273 Lot 252 When chasing a top filly racehorse it is logical to look at pedigrees with a number of top class female winners in the immediate family.

That logic certainly applies in the case of Lot 252 as not only is this filly by American Ideal but she is out of the quick Christian Cullen mare Coppagoodone p,1:57.0 who is a half-sister to one of the great fillies of the last 20 years in De Lovely p,3,1:54.0 $656,113.

De Lovely won the New Zealand Oaks, Australian Oaks, Breeders Crown and New Zealand Diamond on her way the New Zealand 3yo Filly of the Year honours. Their dam Copper Beach p,3,1:58.6 $179,794 also won New Zealand 3yo Filly of the Year honours with wins in both the New Zealand Oaks and Victoria Oaks. Coppagoodone’s first foal is the Gloucester Park winning mare Bettor Copagoodone p,1:59.6 $62,617. There are 11 $100,000 earners bred on the cross of American Ideal over a Christian Cullen mare and five of the 11 are fillies. This filly is eligible for the NSW Breeders Challenge, Australasian Breeders Crown and Bathurst Gold Crown Series Lot 265 At the top of the catalogue page for Lot 265 is the name of Art Major’s richest Australasian winner My Field Marshall p,1:46.9 $1,493,182 whose 29 wins includes a Miracle Mile in Australian Record time. What doesn’t show on the page is the fact that My Field Marshall is out of a mare by Washington VC just like Lot 265. Washington VC stands at stud in the deep south of New Zealand and rumour has it that the stallion can see the penguins at the South Pole from his stable door. His isolated location and the fact that his semen hasn’t been available for transport hasn’t prevented Washington VC from having a big influence as a sire. His best son is the triple Inter winner Im Themightyquinn p,1:50.4 $4,567,456 while his daughters have already produced 16 $100,000 earners including the aforementioned My Field Marshall. Easton All Action, the dam of Lot 265 has already produced two winners in The Empress p,3,1:58.5 and Our Action Man p,2,1:58.9 and her third foal is expected to race as a 2yo in 2021. Easton All Action is a half-sister to Easton Alliance p,1:49.0 $482,515 who is at stud in the USA and has produced five winners including Katherine B p,1:53.2 $191,203.

This filly is eligible for the NSW Breeders Challenge, VicBred, Australasian Breeders Crown and Bathurst Gold Crown Series

11AM - 1PM YEARLING TOUR AT BENSTUD WITH BBQ & LIGHT REFRESHMENTS CONTACT CRAIG JUDD FOR CATERING NUMBERS PH 0458 658 273 Lot 289 Intrude is a former Australian Broodmare of the Year which is hardly surprising as her winners and the winners from her daughters more than fill a single catalogue page.

Among her producing daughters is the Art Major mare Formidable Miss who had just a solitary race-start before beginning a stud career. Her first foal was last season’s four-time 2yo winner Miss Sonic Boom p,2,1:56.8 and her second foal is the Captaintreacherous filly which will go under the hammer as Lot 281 on April 11.

This filly is bred on the same cross as that which produced last season’s star 2yo Tough Tilly p,2,1:54.9 $191,040 and in fact there are eight Southern Hemisphere 2yo winners by Captaintreacherous that are out of Art Major mares. Formidable Miss is a half-sister to four individual $100,000 earners including three-time Australian Pacing Mare of the Year Make Mine Cullen p,1:53.0 $874,178 who is now the dam of Make Mine Heaven p,3,1:53.2 $153,935 a mare which won a Group Three Young Cup.

Another half-sister in Bella Joy p,1:55.8 $109,849 is the dam of New Zealand 2yo Filly of the Year Supersonic Miss p,1:52.6 $373,722 and Roger’s Joy which is now the dam of recent USA winner Leonidas p,1:48.0 $274,795. This family is replete with outstanding female race-horses which produce the next generation of quality stock when they retire to stud.
