On July 1, 2013, OCGA § 20-2-2114 was amended to authorize the State Board of Education to waive the prior school year requirement on a case-by-case basis for specific medical needs of a student upon the request of a parent or guardian. On July 1, 2015, OCGA § 20-2-2114 was further amended so that prior year enrollment in a Georgia public school requirement shall not apply if the student’s parent is an active duty military service member stationed in Georgia within the previous year. This report represents the results for the 2017-2018 school year as required by O.C.G.A. § 20-2- 2118, which stipulates that the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement, in conjunction with the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) shall provide the General Assembly with a report regarding the scholarship program for the previous fiscal year. This was the eleventh school year the GSNS Program was administered. 2017-2018 Program Highlights • Number of participating private schools increased from 248 to 249 private schools. ➔ 19 was the average number of students enrolled in each private school. ➔ 1-166 was the range of students enrolled in each private school. • Total student participation in the program increased from the previous school year by 111 with 4,664 students enrolled in private schools. • 3,321 students continued their participation in the program from the previous school year. • Of the 4,664 students enrolled: ➔ 33% Female, 67% Male ➔ 34.91% Black, 53.86% White, and 11.23% Asian/Hispanic/Native American/Multi- Racial. ➔ 30.46% had a disability type of Specific Learning Disability. ➔ 27.29% had a disability type of Other Health Impairment. • $29,025,673 was paid in fiscal year 2018 for scholarships to students. • $6,672.14 was the average annual scholarship amount for students. • $646 - $14,454 was the range of tuition per student of private schools participating in the GSNS Program. The mission of t he Task Force wa s to help those interested in a new s chool explore various models for such a school and to determine whether there is sufficient need and inter est i n the community so as to assure the viabi lit y of the model which they envision. Site visits to seven schools we re organized and various members of the Task Force participated in thos e visits which t ook pl ace between November 1992 and Janua ry 1993. The visits were very informative and r esulted in many of fer s of fur ther assistance. The participants were: Eli ot Arnovi tz, Chair, Steve Berman, Elaine Blumenthal, Perry Brickman, Immediate Past President of the Federation, Lynne Halpern, Larry Joseph, and Felicia Weber.

    NOTICE OF ELECTION TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF DEKALB COUNTY TO CONSIDER A SPECIAL ONE PERCENT SALES AND USE TAX FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES NOTICE is hereby given that on November 8, 2011 an election will be held at the regular polling places in all the election districts of DeKalb County, Georgia, at which time there will be submitted to the qualified voters of DeKalb County for their determination the question of whether a special one percent sales and use tax for educational purposes shall be continued in DeKalb County for a period of time not to exceed twenty calendar quarters, beginning the first day of the calendar quarter (July 1, 2012) following the calendar quarter in which the sales and use tax for educational purposes currently in effect expires, to raise not more than $645,000,000 and shall be used and applied for capital outlay projects for educational purposes of the DeKalb County School District, the City Schools of Decatur and Atlanta Independent School System, respectively, as specifically described below. (a) For the educational purposes of the DeKalb County School District the following capital outlay projects (the “ DeKalb County School District Projects ”) at a total maximum cost of $607,384,422: (1) Improvement projects to make reasonable accommodations for the Americans with Disabilities Act at various schools throughout the DeKalb County School District; (2) Upgrades, including turf installation, at stadiums and renovations to Athletic Facilities and Stadiums including, but not limited to Adams Stadium, Avondale Stadium,

See3 Communications / Darim Online is thrilled to partner with The AVI CHAI Foundation and Big Duck once again to produce this intensive program. This year's cohort of 15 schools was selected after a rigorous application process to determine schools' readiness for the program and their areas of interest for their social media projects. The schools span geography, size, denomination and experience with social media, but all are seeking to mature their operations, and have demonstrated willingness to take important risks to move themselves and their communities forward. Some are just beginning their social media journey. Others have been developing their work for some time, and are seeking to take their work to the next level. This will be the third cohort of the Academy. The first year was a pilot group of 10 schools in the New York and New Jersey areas. The second cohort of 20 schools across the country excelled last year and created important momentum for the field. "This year's cohort is a powerful list of top schools around the country that are thinking big and marked by excellence in everything that they do," said Colton.

THERE WASGENERAL AGREEMENT THAT THE BASIC PROBLEM WAS THEINABILITY OF MIDDLE CLASS TEACHERS TO UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE,NEEDS, AND ASPIRATIONS OF LOWER CLASS CHILDREN, TOGETHERWITH INADEQUATE TRAINING TO ENABLE THE TEACHER TO FASHIONA PROGRAM OR MATERIALS TO MEET THESE NEEDS. SUGGESTEDTEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS EMPHASIZED COURSES IN URBAN SOCIOLOGY,FIELD EXPERIENCE IN DEPRIVED AREAS, AND TRAININGIN INDIVIDUALIZING INSTRUCTION AND PRODUCING LEARNING MATERIALSSPECIFICALLY GEARED TO THE DISADVANTAGED CHILD.
