2021-22 Hamilton College Catalogue
2021-22 Hamilton College Catalogue About Courses of Instruction Page 1 of 2 Updated Sep. 30, 2021 Courses of Instruction For each course, the numbering indicates its general level and the term in which it is offered. Courses numbered in the 100s, and some in the 200s, are introductory in material and/or approach. Generally courses numbered in the 200s and 300s are intermediate and advanced in approach. Courses numbered in the 400s and 500s are most advanced. Although courses are normally limited to 40 students, some courses have lower enrollment limits due to space constraints (e.g., in laboratories or studios) or to specific pedagogical needs (e.g., special projects, small-group discussions, additional writing assignments). For example, writing-intensive courses are normally limited to 20 students, and seminars are normally limited to 12. Enrollment limits mean that a student might not always be able to take a course that he or she wishes to take. To satisfy pedagogical needs, departments may set priorities to govern entrance into courses limited in enrollment." The term in which the course will be offered is indicated by the letter immediately following the course number: F for fall semester, and S for spring semester. F,S designates a course offered in both fall and spring semesters. Su designates a course comprising a summer field trip. Courses with bracketed numbers will not be offered during 2021-22. In most cases, the description indicates the next date the course will be offered. A single three-digit number preceding a course description indicates that the course may be elected for a single term. -
Bass Guitar from Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia
Bass guitar From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Bass guitar A Music Man StingRay bass String instrument Other names Bass, electric bass guitar, electric bass Classification String instrument (fingeredor picked; rarely strummed) Hornbostel–Sachs 321.322 classification (Composite chordophone) Inventor(s) Paul Tutmarc, Leo Fender Developed 1930s Playing range (a standard tuned 4-string bass guitar) Related instruments Electric guitar Double bass Acoustic bass guitar Musicians List of bass guitarists The bass guitar[1] (also called electric bass,[2][3][4] or simply bass; /ˈ be ɪ s/) is a stringed instrument played primarily with the fingers or thumb, by plucking, slapping, popping, (rarely) strumming, tapping, thumping, or picking with a plectrum, often known as a pick. The bass guitar is similar in appearance and construction to an electric guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and four to sixstrings or courses. The four-string bass, by far the most common, is usually tuned the same as the double bass,[5] which corresponds to pitches one octave lower than the four lowest pitched strings of a guitar (E, A, D, and G).[6] The bass guitar is atransposing instrument, as it is notated in bass clef an octave higher than it sounds (as is the double bass) to avoid excessive ledger lines. Like the electric guitar, the bass guitar is plugged into an amplifier and speaker for live performances. Since the 1960s, the bass guitar has largely replaced the double bass in popular music as the bass instrument in the rhythm section.[7] While types of bass lines vary widely from one style of music to another, the bassist usually fulfills a similar role: anchoring the harmonic framework and establishing the beat. -

Lyrics like "the death of love as we know it" raise serious questions about whether these guys -- and the entire nu metal generation -- are as emotionally stunted and scarred as they seem, or whether they've latched onto a schtick and can't imagine switching gears for fear of losing their share of an already diminished market. There are some surprises on Mudvayne, like a surprisingly Slash-like guitar solo on "Closer" and the death metal intro to the Slipknot-esque "I Can't Wait," but too much of it is more of the same from the band and its genre. On their second album, 2002's The End of All Things to Come, Mudvayne really seemed to be onto something, moving in the direction of progressive rock while remaining extremely heavy.
