Pandora's Playhouse by Sananda Maitreya Track by Track Volume 1
Interviews By Carl Wiser Pandora’s PlayHouse by Sananda Maitreya Track by Track Sananda Maitreya goes though the songs on his album Pandora’s PlayHouse, explaining the themes and concepts. March 12 , 2021 Life is like a SPOILED SUPERMODEL WHO KNOWS THAT EVERYONE wants TO BE WITH HER Sananda Maitreya could have relaxed into his celebrity, but has instead pushed forward on a quest for meaning and enlightenment, expressed in his music and his words. As Terence Trent D’Arby, he became a huge star, with a #1 hit (“Wishing Well”) and endless adulation (his supermodel analogy certainly comes from first-hand experience). In the ‘00s, he took his new name, and with it, became a new person. Here’s what he told us in 2007: TTD had died. His psyche had been shot full of so many Volume 1 arrows that he could no longer hold his spirit. After intense pain I meditated for a new spirit, a new will, a new identity. 1. Pandora’s Plight (02:09) Sananda Maitreya is an opportunity for me, this spirit, to live with a new psyche and use it to continue my work, the “PANDORA’S PLIGHT” Is simply that HER POWER work I came to earth for. WILL ALWAYS BE FEARED and RESENTED INSTEAD OF PRAISED. She will have attached to her image all of That work continues with Pandora’s PlayHouse, a musical the things we fail to understand and accept, while being journey of 28 tracks across two volumes. It’s steeped in denied the fruits of her glory. -
The Concept of “Love” According to Rumi and Shakespeare
THE CONCEPT OF “LOVE” ACCORDING TO RUMI AND SHAKESPEARE: A comparative study of Mathnawi and Antony and Cleopatra NEZAHAT BAŞÇI* ABSTRACT The main motif behind most of Shakespeare’s tragedies is the concept of Love. This concept may also be seen as the major theme in many of the stories of Rumi’s Mathnawi and Dīvân–e Shams. The fate of this love is usually the death of the lovers by the end of the story. This common theme, along with the common ending of such stories, is the main topic of this article. In this work, the definitions of love are briefly provided according to Sufism and Rumi’s ideas, and then 11 common items with respect to the concept of love are studied in the works of these two great literary figures. The data for this research have been collected based on Shakespeare’s tragedies, and Rumi’s verses, and the concept of love has been studied in two levels of Form and content. The idea of love forms the basis of Shakespeare’s tragedies, and leads to the death of the lovers. Therefore, death is also studied within this framework along with love. The ultimate goal of this article is to provide an analysis of the common features of love in Shakespeare’s work from the eye of an oriental, Persian-speaking reader, who is more acquainted with Rumi’s works. Among Shakespeare’s tragedies, Antony and Cleopatra has been chosen as the main source, however, the other great tragedies of his have not been neglected. KEY WORDS Rumi, Shakespeare, love, Antony and Cleopatra, Mathnawi. -

Calderón, Chair This dissertation studies the socio-cultural connections of the United States and Mexico’s Pan-African selected twentieth- and twenty-first century sites of struggle through literature, film, and music. Novels and movies such as La negra Angustias (1948/1950), Imitation of Life (1933/1959), Angelitos negros (1948/1970), Como agua para chocolate saga (1989, 2016, 2017), and film (1992), as well as music of racial activism by Mexican and Afro-Latino artists such as Negro José and Afro-Chicano band Third Root, are all key elements of my project to study the formation and understanding what of Mexico’s Tercera Raíz entails historically, politically, and culturally. I focus my study on the development of black racial consciousness in twentieth-century Mexican cultural life, and I consequently explore the manner in which Mexican writers, filmmakers and artists have managed the relationship between Afro-Mexicans and majority ii populations of white and mestizo Mexicans, as well as the racial bridge existent between the United States’ black history, and Mexico’s Third Root. -

Fathers, Sons, Brothers, Lovers: Masculine Mourning in Michael Chabon’s The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay Amy Vuleta Bachelor of Behavioural Studies Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Graduate Certificate Writing, Editing and Publishing A thesis submitted for the degree of Master of Philosophy at The University of Queensland in 2014 School of English, Media Studies and Art History Abstract This thesis explores nostalgia, mourning, and masculinity in Michael Chabon’s postmodern homage to Golden Age comics, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It argues that nostalgia, as the primary mode of remembrance by which the male characters mourn their losses, and through which the novel itself yearns to revisit a past moment in history, is ultimately inadequate to successfully mourn a traumatic history. The novel is engaged in a revisitation of history in a number of ways: through the creation of a site of memory out of the novel, through the construction of a collection of textual traces to memorialise the past, and through offering different versions of narrative closure to each character. This study offers close readings of the novel, informed by a range of theoretical approaches, which uncover the relationships among nostalgia, masculinity, memorialisation, history and memory, grief and loss, and mourning in the postmodern. In its textual analysis, the thesis draws on theorists of the postmodern, mourning, memory, history, and nostalgia to describe how the novel can be read as symptomatic of a particular moment in postmodernity, and is at once celebratory and ambivalent about its own narrative past and future. Kavalier & Clay references the opposing cultural sites of the museum and the circus, and this study analyses the presence of these sites in the novel to explore their respective spatial fixity and transience in light of the themes of nostalgia and loss. -
Aesthetics, Psychology and the Value of the Author in Early 20Th-Century Japan
Cultivated Madness: Aesthetics, Psychology and the Value of the Author in Early 20th-Century Japan Pau Pitarch Fernández Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY 2015 © 2015 Pau Pitarch Fernández All rights reserved ABSTRACT Cultivated Madness: Aesthetics, Psychology and the Value of the Author in Early 20th-Century Japan Pau Pitarch Fernández This dissertation analyzes how the motif of the “morbid genius” became a central concept for the formation of the literary field in 1910s and 1920s Japan. Writers deployed the idea that artistic creativity is a form of mental abnormality in order to carve a privileged space for themselves as “modern authors,” at a time when literary writing was becoming professionalized. Psychological abnormality offered both a mark of modernity, as well as a set of aesthetic, medical and political discourses to legitimize a notion of literary value based on the artist's unique experience of the world. This discourse of uniqueness was often contrasted with the logic of economic profit, as if the authors' abnormality were proof that their works had value beyond the price they commanded as a commodity in the mass cultural market. However, it was precisely this configuration of literary value as extra-economical that made possible the creation of a privileged space for literature within the cultural economy of value. Chapter 1 traces the origins of medicalized concepts of “morbid genius” and their reception and development in modern Japan. I argue that by the 1910s, psychological abnormality had become naturalized in Japan as a key feature of “modern literature.” Next, I look at the circulation of biographical literature on 19th-century European artists in Japan. -
