I'm a girl who has everything. Model looks, intelligence, great social life. I'm one of the lucky ones. Don't you? My best friend Sophie is spreading rumors about me. My family is slowly falling apart. It turns into a long, lonely summer full of mystery and silence. But I met a guy who wouldn't let me hide. He's one of those intense types, obsessed with music and not afraid of confrontation at all. He's determined to make me listen. Will I ever have the courage to tell him what really happened the night Sophie and I stopped being friends? Fascinating, emotionally turbulent, unputdownable teenage fiction is a natural move for older Katie Cassidy fans. From the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author Once and For all to finding the truth, you have to be willing to hear it. When she's a model, Annabelle is a picture of perfection. But her real life is far from perfect. Luckily, she has Owen. He is intense, obsessed with music, and dedicated to always telling the truth. And most of all he is determined to make Annabelle happy... This is young adult fiction at its best. --School Library Magazine's Sarah Dessen is the winner of the Margaret A. Edwards Award for her contribution to YA literature as well as the Romantic Times Career Achievement Award. Sarah Dessen's Books: This Summer of Someone Like You Keep The Moon Dreamland Is a Lullaby The Truth About Forever Just Listen Lock and Key Along for a Ride What Happened to Farewell to the Moon and More Saint All That Once and For all last year, Annabelle was the girl who has it all - at least that's the role she played in the TV commercial for the Department store's Copp. This year, she's a girl who has nothing: no best friend because mean but exciting Sophie dumped her, no peace at home since her older sister became anorexic and no one was sitting with for lunch. Until she meets Owen Armstrong. Tall, dark and obsessed with music, Owen is a reformed bad boy with a commitment to the truth. With Owen's help, Annabelle may face what happened that night when she and Sophie stopped being friends. No matter how much time has passed, these things still affect us and the world we live in. If you don't pay attention to the past, you'll never Future. It's all connected to each other. I'm so in feelings about finally writing a review for this book! This has been my favorite Sarah Dessen title since the first time I took it, waaaay back in 2006. Her books introduced me to the modern YA genre, and it's been dear to my heart for so long that I was a little afraid to reread it. It was probably my 12th re-reading, but it's been a while, so I'm happy to say I still enjoyed every moment of it. ❤PLOT ➳➳Annabel used to have it all. She was a successful teenage model, she hung out with the coolest girls in school, went to all the best parties ... all was well until her sister developed anorexia and had to go for treatment; Until modeling became less of a joy and more of a nightmare; until the party went wrong and her former best friend managed to convince everyone who mattered that Annabelle was a relationship pest. CHARACTERS ➳➳This book is full of characters who feel truly authentic and authentic: There's Annabelle, whose biggest flaw is that she's dishonest because she hates confrontation and saying what she really feels. The whole plot of the book really wouldn't exist even without her refusal to just talk and say what's on her mind, but we get to follow her as she grows up and learns to be honest and listen to her heart.Owen, love interest seems at first like your typical bad boy: he's big and tall and brooding and a little scary because he has anger problems. Rumors abound that say he's made a hard time, he's violent, etc. We learn pretty quickly that he's not only a bit of a teddy bear, but he's also really freaking geeky when it comes to music. Totally obsessed, and not with the death metal and rock that we led to expect, but with ... Chants? And the techno? He's a weird character at his best, and he's easily my favorite part of the book because his banter is so damn cute and he has a heart of gold. Whitney, Annabel's middle sister, suffers from an eating disorder that manages to never feel like a prop, despite being present only in a lateral character (instead of a narrator, as we usually see in YA). I was thrilled with how much effort Sarah puts in fleshing out her for her mess. She has a troubled past to explain her behavior, and Annabelle even treats stories from their friendships that offer insight into how Sophie's behavior hurts her as many people as it has helped her with - instead of just showing her as a kind of goddess that everyone at school is unable to resist, which is a trail that I hate in YA contemporaries. There is actually nothing to say about anyone else, but I always love the fact that Sarah throws in a few characters from her other books here and there (I tell you who the cameos are in this - you'll have to read it and see!). CATALYSTS ➳➳ There are several different catalysts for action in this book (e.g. ED Whitney, or Owen's Anger Management Issues, or Annabelle Modeling), but the most important and fundamental is the trauma that occurred with Annabelle. We learn early on that Sophie hates Annabelle for what happened at the end of the previous school year, and with the way she constantly calls Annabelle a whore or a whore, coupled with the obvious symptoms of Annabelle PTSD, when she sees a certain man man, it's not hard to put two and two together. In case you didn't guess that early on, though, Sarah takes us through Annabelle's thought processes as she slowly comes to terms with what happened, and it culminates in a chaotic party memory that she regretted ever going. There's a big scene that I wouldn't call graphic, but would say it could potentially be an initiation for victims of violence. However, Sarah writes the whole plot arc nicely. Annabelle's feelings felt so authentic and real and I connected well enough to some of the things she said and did that I found myself wondering if Sarah was writing from the experience. I hope not, but we all know the stats. On a happier note, we get to watch Annabelle slowly heal, with the amazing support system she has in place. FINAL VERDICT ➳➳It may be partly nostalgia speaking here, but I love this book so much and I recommend it for those who enjoy YA contemporaries, especially if you're considering trying out one of Sarah's many famous works and just don't know where to start in her bibliography. Content Warnings: This book includes scenes of sexual assault, eating disorders, violence and slut-shaming (from side characters). ... • Louna Knows a Lot About Weddings— but Not So Much About Love
Louna knows a lot about weddings— but not so much about love. fter many summers working at her mother’s wedding planning business, Louna A has seen every sort of wedding, from informal on the beach to elegant in historic mansions. She’s handled all kinds of crises: AWOL brides, scene-stealing bridesmaids, controlling grooms. And she’s seen the eventual outcome of each perfect wedding. Maybe that’s why she’s deeply cynical about happily-ever-after endings, especially since her own idyllic first love ended sadly. So when happy-go-lucky serial dater Ambrose enters her life, Louna won’t take him seriously. He is sure he can change. Louna is betting that he can’t. But Ambrose hates not getting what he wants, and Louna is the girl he’s been waiting for. SARAH DESSEN has been called the queen of contemporary young adult fiction.
