ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 2019 D2CCA NCAA Division II Baseball All-Central Region First and Second Teams have been announced as voted upon by College Sports Infor- mation Directors of America (CoSIDA) from the region. The Central Region consists of 39 baseball teams from the Northern Sun (15 teams), Mid-America (12 teams) and Great American (12 teams) conferences. In all, 19 teams were represented with eight teams gaining multiple selections.

The teams are headlined by the University of Central Missouri’s Erik Webb as the Central Region Player of the Year and Augustana University’s Max Steffens as the Central Region Pitcher of the Year.

Each of the 16 D2CCA All-Central Region First Team selections will now be listed on the D2CCA Baseball All-America ballot, which will be voted on by the CoSIDA Division II membership with the announcement of those All-American teams expected Friday, May 31. The 2019 team features five two-time all-region performers led by two-time all-region first selection Reed Hjelle of the University of Minnesota, Crookston. St. Cloud State pitcher Dominic Austing earned a bump from second team in 2018 to the first team in 2019 while the reigning D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year,Alex Achtermann, earned all-region honors for a second straight year, being named to the second team as a two-way pitcher/utility selection for Pittsburg State. Two players were all-region first team picks as sophomores in 2017, catcher Hunter Hisky of Southwest Baptist and infielder Dylan McDearmon of Arkansas Tech, who received second team honors as seniors in 2019.

Of the 33 student-athletes to earn All-Central Region honors, 15 are seniors (down seven from 2018) with 11 juniors. The youth has a stronger representation in 2019 with five sophomores and two freshmen while last year’s team featured just one sophomore.

Minnesota State University, Mankato led the way with four all-region selections with three first team honorees. Four other teams had three selections with Augus- tana, Central Missouri and Oklahoma Baptist each receiving two first team picks while Arkansas Tech had one first and a pair of seconds. No other programs had multiple first team selections, although three other squads had a pair of selections with Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern State each placing one player on each team while Wayne State had a pair of second team choices.

Breaking down the conferences, the NSIC led the way with 12 total selections which were shared between six of its 15 league members and had seven first team performers. The MIAA came in with 11 total all-region choices (four first team) with seven of its 12 member schools represented while the GAC had six of its 12 schools earn a spot with five first team picks among its 10 players voted all-region.
