NIAS July was a hectic month for the Institute with a series of workshops, events, lectures and discussions. Titled International Peace Research Initiative (IPRI), the Institute has started this new activity in July 2018 under its International Strategic and Security Studies Programme. IPRI has a four-fold approach: Peace Research, Capacity Building, Creating a Network and Peace Lectures. The initiative seeks to approach peace from a policy perspective in South Asia supporting the State and Civil Society. One of the major aims of the IPRI is to create a network of academic institutions, research think tanks and also individual scholars who would come together to take forward the multiple activities of this peace initiative. Germany based Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is one of the major partners of the IPRI. Click here to read the full report Workshop on Sustainability of Coal Mining at NIAS on 05 July 2018 Energy and Environment Programme, NIAS organized a half-day workshop on “Sustainability of Coal Mining” on 05 July 2018 at NIAS. This workshop was organized under the energy component of the project “‘Interdisciplinary forays into human-environment interactions: an integrative research initiative in energy, ecology and nonlinear modelling’” with support from Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. The workshop was aimed to bring together researchers, industry per- sonnel, policymakers, and civil society to explore the interface of coal mining and sustainable development. Highlights of July Conference on Relevance of archaeology in 21st century India at NIAS during 24-26, July 2018. The Heritage, Science and Society program held three programs over a three day period of a time under the Disseminating Archaeology project, one was an art show called Exhibition on art and archaeology: Experiencing the field from July 25-26, 2018. This was a two-day public exhibition curating the diverse experienc- es of selected archaeologists and artists exhibiting their records, observations and experiences. The conference – Relevance of Archaeology in 21st century In- dia – was conducted between July 24-25, 2018. Finally, there was a student workshop on archaeological research methods attended by students who were MA and PhD students from across the country. Design Thinking Workshop on Charting the Path for the Next Decade organised by PRODIGY- NIAS Gifted Education Programme , 29 July 2018 NIAS, Bangalore Conference on ‘Relevance of Archaeology for 21st century India’ at NIAS during 24-26 July 2018. The Design thinking workshop was one of the many attempts to facilitate the progression of our work to the next level. The IBM design team facilitated this workshop in which NIAS had invited representatives from school partners, parents, gifted and talented children, mentors, Advanced Learning Centres’ facilitators, teachers and the NIAS Gifted Education team. The workshop facilitated consensus building across all stakeholders with regard to the goals, resource planning – human and financial, implementation strategies and building a sustainable model for the country. The workshop generated active participation from all the stakeholders.
