Roman Wars and Major Historical Events Project Choose a Famous Roman War/Fight Options (or you may find your own) Civil War of Marc Antony vs Octavian, and the Battle of Pyrrhic War 282-275 BC Actium Events leading up to the Gallic Sack of Rome 387 BC Teutoburg forest 9AD First Punic War – 264-241 BC Claudius and the conquest of Britain 43AD Second Punic War – 218-202BC (Hannibal and Scipio) Boudica’s revolt 61AD Third Punic War – 146BC Vespasian and the Jewish War (including Masada) The Social War (91-88 B.C.) BarKochba revolt 132 AD Gallic Wars-Caesar Constantine’s conversion to Christianity Spartacus’ slave revolt Other options are available if you find them Caesar and events leading to the Crossing of the Rubicon and it’s effects Pax Romana Directions: 1. Find at least 3 sources (preferably more, since you may just find tidbits in each place) of information about your war and/or person. (You must cite them correctly.) 2. Write a paper answering all the questions A-F below. (At least 1 ½ pages long, not counting your heading!!) Your paper must be well-written, including an introductory paragraph stating the importance of your topic, informational paragraphs that support your statement of importance, and a closing paragraph. 3. You must present your info to the class, showing us pictures and making reference to maps of your area and the Roman world as a whole. (We need to know what area we’re talking about.) Answer the following questions: A. When did the wars take place? B. Who were the major players? C. Who was the aggressor? D. What incited the wars? What were the factors that made it happen? (Give us some historical context for the war.) E. Explain the events and major occurrences of the war. F. How and why did it end? Who won? G. Find maps of your area and pictures to accompany your project. (You must have a map big enough for us all to see. Also see if there are triumphal arches about it or statues/friezes; find pictures of any remains left behind in the area. e.g. pictures of the remains of Masada) H. Make a PowerPoint presentation [or a movie] with your maps and images on it. It should have a title slide with the name of your war, dates, and your name. It may also include a few bullet points of interesting info [but do NOT copy-paste your entire paper into a slide…that is NOT concise and interesting.] Rubric/grading: 0 1 2 Presentation-concise and interesting 0 1 2 Powerpoint used effectively to engage the class, including elements listed above 0 1 2 1.When did the wars take place? 0 1 2 2.
