Week 4 “Lose Yourself-Eminem”

INTRODUCTION

Having traversed such musical greats as Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is” and also Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places”, we venture into the final week of our Mixtape series! We’ve been taking notes from what each of these songs communicate to us and how they fit into our lives. This week, we are exploring Eminem’s Academy Award-winning track, “Lose Yourself”. At surface level, the song talks about seizing opportunities. All of us can relate to being bombarded with opportunities and trying to find motivation to leave our safe comfortable normal to get out there and seize what lies before us. Tom takes us through Esther’s story about coming face to face with a giant opportunity that she was facing in her life. Let’s dive into scripture and the discussion questions to discover more on this topic! DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

1. What have been some opportunities that you have taken or not taken? Was it easy to decide? 2. What holds us back from seizing opportunities? 3. What role does faith play in seizing opportunities?

Read Esther 4:1-17 4. What are your thoughts on the reading? 5. Read verses 4-5, How does living a sheltered life, like Esther, blind us from potential opportunities? 6. Is something blinding you from opportunities? How can you overcome whatever is blinding you? 7. What was the opportunity that God was presenting to Esther? What were the risks of seizing that opportunity? 8. What happens if we do seize the opportunities that God puts in front of us? 9. Will God’s plans be ruined if we don’t step into the opportunities that he places in front of us? If yes, why? If no, why? 10. How does serving in your local church lead us into greater opportunities? 11. Why is being obedient to God so important?

ACTION STEP

For your action step this week, make an intentional effort to think about your life and opportunities that God has placed in your life. A lot of times those opportunities are so tough for us to step into and embrace. This week make a list of the opportunities in your life, it might be one thing or it could be a lot of things. Then spend time in prayer this week asking Him to open doors and reveal to you the opportunities that he wants you to step into. If God reveals to you one that you should step into, challenge yourself to step out then and take that opportunity. Let’s go forward in boldness and seize those opportunities that God has for us!
