RESEARCH PROJECTS Optimal Design of Power Transmission Line Towers (M.Sc. thesis research, Iran university of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran, 1997-1998) In this project, we increase development of power transmission lines to reduce consumption of high volume of towers. Due to high cost of steel towers, the concrete towers were proposed in this study as an alternative to decrease the cost of construction of power lines. design span of 300 m and 150 m were designed and compared with steel towers for the same spans. The steel towers for 300 m span were made of angles and for 150 m were made of plates with telescopic shape and the required connections were proposed and detailed. Then, cost of the concrete and steel towers were compared based on price of materials in Iran. Design Input Energy Spectra for Structures Based on Iranian Acceleration Records (Ph.D. thesis research, Iran university of Science and Technology, Tehran, Iran, 2001-2007) Design of structures with performance-based design especially based on energy is one of the methods noticed by researches in the recent years. Researches considered that among various types of energy the input energy, which is a very stable parameter of structural response, is suitable for energy-based design. Input energy is a measure of energy that earthquake inputs to structures during the ground motion. In this research, we proposed design input energy spectra based on Iranian earthquakes and the effects of ground motion duration, structural damping and ductility, stiffness ratio of inelastic to elastic parts in bilinear model and soil type on elastic and inelastic input energies, and hysteretic energy were studied, using 110 Iranian earthquake records.
