Analysis of Talk Shows Between Obama and Trump Administrations by Jack Norcross — 69
Analysis of Talk Shows Between Obama and Trump Administrations by Jack Norcross — 69 An Analysis of the Political Affiliations and Professions of Sunday Talk Show Guests Between the Obama and Trump Administrations Jack Norcross Journalism Elon University Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements in an undergraduate senior capstone course in communications Abstract The Sunday morning talk shows have long been a platform for high-quality journalism and analysis of the week’s top political headlines. This research will compare guests between the first two years of Barack Obama’s presidency and the first two years of Donald Trump’s presidency. A quantitative content analysis of television transcripts was used to identify changes in both the political affiliations and profession of the guests who appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” CBS’s “Face the Nation,” ABC’s “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” between the two administrations. Findings indicated that the dominant political viewpoint of guests differed by show during the Obama administration, while all shows hosted more Republicans than Democrats during the Trump administration. Furthermore, U.S. Senators and TV/Radio journalists were cumulatively the most frequent guests on the programs. I. Introduction Sunday morning political talk shows have been around since 1947, when NBC’s “Meet the Press” brought on politicians and newsmakers to be questioned by members of the press. The show’s format would evolve over the next 70 years, and give rise to fellow Sunday morning competitors including ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’s “Face the Nation” and “Fox News Sunday.” Since the mid-twentieth century, the overall media landscape significantly changed with the rise of cable news, social media and the consumption of online content. -

Billy Bush Says There Were 8 Witnesses to Trump's 'Access Hollywood'
The Washington Post Morning Mix Billy Bush says there were 8 witnesses to Trump’s ‘Access Hollywood’ comments By Derek Hawkins December 4 Billy Bush, the former “Access Hollywood” host, has responded to recent reports that President Trump has questioned the authenticity of video in which he can be heard bragging about grabbing women by their genitalia, saying the president was “indulging in some revisionist history.” Bush said that seven people, in addition to him, heard Trump. In a commentary Sunday for the New York Times, Bush said he was disturbed by reports from the past week that Trump has told allies and at least one senator that he may not be the voice on the 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape. “He said it,” Bush wrote, referring to Trump’s now infamous “grab them by the p‑‑‑y” remark made on an “Access Hollywood” bus. “Of course he said it,” Bush added. “And we laughed along, without a single doubt that this was hypothetical hot air from America’s highest-rated bloviator. Along with Donald Trump and me, there were seven other guys present on the bus at the time, and every single one of us assumed we were listening to a crass standup act. He was performing. Surely we thought, none of this was real.” “We now know better,” he added, referring to the women who came forward to accuse Trump of improper sexual advances. The Washington Post first reported the leaked recording in October 2016. It captured audio of then-candidate Trump boasting to Bush about forcibly kissing, groping and trying to have sex with women as the two rode to a soap opera set to shoot a segment. -

Many of these examinations have focused on performances that emphasize subversion and separated drag into two categories: the progressive drag that subverts, and the regressive drag that reinforces. While this approach has provided a wealth of understanding about drag performance and gender roles, drag can be examined without separating its subverting/reinforcing aspects. -
Merri Dee's Legendary Award-Winning 49-Year Career in Chicago Broadcasting Is Admirable in Itself
E-mail: www.merridee.com Merri Dee Communications Merri Dee's legendary award-winning 49-year career in Chicago broadcasting is admirable in itself. She was the Illinois Lottery’s First Lady, anchored the first edition of midday news and sports, hosted a magazine- style TV show and served in management as Director of Community Relations. One of the first African- American women to anchor the news in the Windy City, Dee has parlayed her celebrity into charitable success, powerful motivational speaking and advocacy. She has raised millions of dollars for children's charities, spearheaded victims' rights legislation, and helped increase adoption rates across the nation. In 1966, Merri Dee landed her first radio position with WBEE in Harvey, Illinois. She was one of the first female DJs on WSDM radio and opened her four-hour radio show at WBEE as “Merri Dee the Honeybee.” During the next year, Dee developed a following in Chicago radio, becoming a local celebrity. In 1967 she made the leap to television quickly with WCIU Chicago as host of a Saturday primetime entertainment show. By 1970 Dee hosted her own talk show, The Merri Dee Show, on WSNS Channel 44. In 1972 Dee was hired as an anchor for Chicago’s WGN-TV. After 11 years in various on-air positions, Dee moved into administration and became the station’s Director of Community Relations and Manager of its Children’s Charities. One of the few African-American women in broadcasting at the time, Dee was becoming one of the most successful. She became a trusted advisor. -

Flinn, Jr. (hereinafter "Flinn"), by his attorney, hereby respectfully submits his Opposition to the "Petition for Special Relief' (hereinafter "Opposition") filed by Comcast Cable Communications, LLC (hereinafter "Comcast") in the above- referenced proceeding. In support thereof, the following is shown: A. Background Flinn is the licensee of WFBD, a full power commercial television broadcast station licensed to Destin, Florida. WFBD has been on the air for less than seven years (i.e., the station commenced operation on September 5,2005). Comcast failed to either (a) implement carriage of WFBD or (b) respond to Flinn's September 19,2011 carriage request. As such, on February 9,2012, Flinn forwarded another detailed letter to Comcast delineating why carriage of WFBD was appropriate. In addition, Flinn's February 9, 2012 letter stated: As noted in Flinn's initial September 19, 2011 carriage election notice to Comcast, [p]lease be advised that in the event you are unable to receive a good quality WFBD signal (as defined by the FCC's rules) at all of your principal headends in the DMA, WFBD agrees to be responsible for the costs of delivering to those systems a good quality signal via alternative means pursuant to 47 C.F.R. -

BBC Children's News and First-Run UK Originated Programmes
BBC Children’s news and first-run UK originations Statement on the BBC’s request to change its Operating Licence [] Redacted for publication BBC Children’s news and first-run UK originations – Welsh overview STATEMENT: Publication Date: 28 July 2020 Contents Section 1. Overview 1 2. Background 4 3. Our decisions on changes to the Operating Licence 7 Annex A1. Comparison of current and revised Operating Licence conditions 50 A2. Notice of Variation 56 A3. Equality impact assessment 59 1. Overview This document explains Ofcom’s final decisions following a request by the BBC to change its Operating Licence to allow it to meet its news and new content commitments for children by increasing its online provision. This follows a consultation setting out our provisional views, which we published in November 2019. Our research shows that children are increasingly consuming content online, while the reach of linear television on the TV set among children is continuing to decline.1 In April-May 2020, during lockdown, linear viewing saw a resurgence among children, but it is already falling again.2 Given these changes, the BBC must innovate and adapt its approach in order to stay relevant to its youngest audiences. In Ofcom’s most recent Annual Report on the BBC3, we said that the BBC needs to work harder to reach young people by making content that appeals to them and ensuring that it is readily available where they want it. If younger audiences don’t engage with the BBC, then public support for the licence fee could be eroded, which is a significant risk to the future sustainability of the BBC.
