La premi`erepartie est consacr´ee`al’´etude des propri´et´es asymptotiques de proc´eduresde tests multiples visant `acontrˆolerl’esp´erance (FDR) du taux de fausses d´ecouvertes (FDP) parmi les hypoth`eses rejet´ees. On introduit un formalisme flexible qui permet de calculer la loi asymp- totique du FDP et les conditions de r´egularit´eassoci´eespour une vaste famille de proc´eduresde tests multiples, et de comparer la puissance de ces proc´edures. On s’int´eresseensuite aux liens en termes de contrˆoledu FDR entre les bornes intrins`eques`atrois probl`emesde tests multiples: la d´etection,l’estimation, et la s´election. Enfin, on construit un test g´enomiqueper- mettant de d´eterminer,pour une patiente trait´eepour un cancer du sein, si un second cancer survenant sur le mˆemesein est ou non une r´ecidive du premier. Abstract This thesis deals with statistical questions raised by the analysis of high- dimensional genomic data for cancer research. In the first part, we study asymptotic properties of multiple testing procedures that aim at control- ling the False Discovery Rate (FDR), that is, the expected False Discovery Proportion (FDP) among rejected hypotheses. We develop a versatile for- malism to calculate the asymptotic distribution of the FDP an the associated regularity conditions, for a wide range of multiple testing procedures, and compare their asymptotic power. We then study in terms of FDR con- trol connections between intrinsic bounds between three multiple testing problems: detection, estimation and selection. In particular, we connect convergence rates in the estimation problem to the regularity of the p-value distribution near 1. In the second part, we develop statistical methods to study DNA mi- croarrays for cancer research. We propose a microarray normalization method that removes spatial biases while preserving the true biological signal; it combines robust regression with a mixture model with spatial constraints. Then we develop a method to infer gene regulations from gene expression data, which is based on learning and multiple testing theories. Finally, we build a genomic score to predict, for a patient treated for a breast tumor, whether or not a second cancer is a true recurrence of the first cancer. Formulae have been published previously for the variance of actual relationship for a number of specific types of relatives but no general formula for non-inbred individuals is available. We provide here a unified framework that enables the variances for distant relatives to be easily computed, showing, for example, how the variance of sharing for great grandparent–great grandchild, great uncle–great nephew, half uncle–nephew and first cousins differ, even though they have the same expected relationship. Results are extended in order to include differences in map length between sexes, no recombination in males and sex linkage. We derive the magnitude of skew in the proportion shared, showing the skew becomes increasingly large the more distant the relationship. The results obtained for variation in actual relationship apply directly to the variation in actual inbreeding as both are functions of genomic coancestry, and we show how to partition the variation in actual inbreeding between and within families.

The authors explore two models applied to option prices to extract the risk-neutral probability density function (R-PDF) of the expected Can$/US$ exchange rate. Each of the two models extends the Black-Scholes model by using a mixture of two lognormals for the terminal distribution, instead of a single lognormal: one mixed lognormal imposes a specific stochastic process for the underlying asset, and the other does not.

The role of a power law critical exponent τ and Levy index α are studied. Various features of this model are developed and compared with other commonly used models of particle production which are shown to differ by having different values for τ ,α . While void scaling is a feature of this model, hierarchical structure is not a general property of it. The value of the exponent τ = 2 is a transition point associated with void and hierarchical scaling features. An exponent γ is introduced to describe enhanced fluctuations near a critical point. Experimentally determined properties of the void scaling function can be used to determine τ . PACS numbers: 25.75Dw, 25.75Gz, 25.75Nq 1.Introduction In this paper we study particle multiplicity distributions based on a model that parallels a theory of Bose Einstein condensation and has a connection to other critical phenomena such as critical opalescence. Their presently exists considerable interest in Bose-Einstein condensation for several reasons. One of the main reasons for the recent interest is the actual observation of the Bose-Einstein condensation phenomena in laser traps [1-2].
