Steve Mosko Promoted to TV Chairman

​Television executive Steve Mosko has been promoted to chairman of , the company said Monday.

Mosko, previously president of Sony Pictures Television, had been at the post since 2000 and with Sony since 1992. He will now move into the newly created role of chairman to continue overseeing Sony's TV pursuits, reporting to Sony Pictures head Michael Lynton.

"Under Steve's leadership, Sony Pictures Television has become the industry's largest independent television studio," said Lynton. "Our media networks business has expanded to over 150 channel feeds around the world and the company is well-positioned for growth in both production and distribution. Steve is a remarkable executive and we are proud to have him at the helm of Sony Pictures Television."

This move is months after the departure of , when Tom Rothman was named chairman of Sony's movie business. The newly created role of TV chairman further divides the two sides of Sony's business. Mosko's division also oversees Sony's , GSN and its international AXN channels. Sony's movie division has suffered from a low-performing year, but its TV side has some hits that it's continuing to grow. Sony claims both broadcast and cable successes with AMC's Better Call Saul, Starz's Outlander, NBC's Blacklist and ABC's .
