PRACTITIONER DIRECTORS The GBGB is seeking to fill a Practitioner Director (Owner) vacancy for on its Main Board. Any owner with a greyhound registered in their name with GBGB is invited to state in writing and in detail why he/she should be considered for the position of owner representative on the Board. Nominations should be accompanied by the names and signatures of two fellow owners as proposer and seconder. The GBGB Nominations Committee will review each application having regard for such factors, including, but not limited to, as the nominated person’s honesty, integrity, reputation, competence and capability as well as whether their appointment would facilitate the effective functioning of the Main Board and the delivery of good corporate responsibility. Nominees must be prepared to foster constructive relations with fellow directors, members of GBGB committees and nominated representative groups and be prepared to accept and work within the principle of collective responsibility. The GBGB Nominations Committee will select a shortlist from the nominations, following which an election under the auspices of GBGB’s independent auditors will take place. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be invited to the GBGB Main Board meeting on Thursday 30th September 2021. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Calendar notice: 4th June 2021 Nomination deadline: 25th June 2021 Nomination Committee: 2nd July 2021 Voting cards to be sent: 16th July 2021 Voting Deadline: 6th August 2021 Election count: 10th August 2021 (Offices of Barnes Roffe) Board meeting: 30th September 2021 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CALENDAR 1 TRACK LIAISON OFFICER The Greyhound Board of Great Britain Welfare and Veterinary Standing Committee are looking to recruit a Track Liaison Officer to join our Track Sub-Committee. The main purpose of this role is to visit the 19 GBGB licensed racecourses, a minimum of 4 times per year, to promote, as liaison with GBGB Track Consultants the Sports Turf Research Institute (STRI), best practice relating to track preparation and maintenance. Candidates must have experience of maintaining sand, or similar surfaces that are required to operate year-round, with regular frequency and in wide ranging weather conditions. An understanding of the usage and maintenance of basic ground-working machinery, their abilities and functions, and familiarity with tractor usage is essential. Further understanding of the track fitting and environment, such as hare and watering systems would be preferable. Excellent reporting and communication skills are also required as there will be regular contact with stadium staff (as both track and senior management level). You will also work alongside and interface with STRI. Candidates will have the ability to demonstrate a consistent approach and vision to track preparation and maintenance during track visits and more formal training days with ground staff, therefore good presentational skills are required. Good IT skills are essential. The candidate will be home-based and the ability to work under your own initiative is essential, as is a clean driving licence and your own vehicle. There is a requirement for the Track Safety Officer to respond to both routine and more immediate calls for assistance from tracks. Further training and support for the role will be provided upon appointment. Salary: c.£35,000 per annum plus mileage. The successful candidate will be supplied with the necessary homeworking IT equipment. The aim of the fortnight was to promote the importance of great dental care and raise awareness of the ways to protect your greyhound’s teeth. As part of this, we were delighted to have over 60 entries to the competition, all showcasing sparkling smiles. Dental hygiene is essential to the overall health and wellbeing of your greyhound. Our website contains blogs, advice and veterinary videos on developing and maintaining a good dental routine. Further information about dental care and a grading scale to teeth is also available in the GBGB Code of Practice. If you have concerns about your greyhound’s oral health always seek veterinary advice. ADVERTISEMENT CALENDAR 3 TRAINERS NOTICE MSC RESEARCH STUDY INTO THE USES OF VETERINARY PHYSIOTHERAPY IN RACING GREYHOUNDS IN THE UK The GBGB has approved an MSc research study into the uses of veterinary physiotherapy in racing greyhounds of the UK. The purpose of this research, which is being carried out by Sophia Kang of the University of Nottingham, is to help improve knowledge on common injuries of racers and the uses of veterinary physiotherapy in regard to treating racing greyhounds.
