DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TRENDS FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINIST RATION TRAVEL ON ALL ROADS AND STREETS DOWN-2.2% COMPARED TO SAME MONTH ONE YEAR AGO FOR OFFlClAL DISTRIBUTION I I TRAFFIC VOLUME TRENDS - NOVEMBER 1979 I Based on preliminary reports from the State highwa agencies, travel 1 during November 1979 on all roads and streets in tI)eY nation decreased i by -2.2 percent as compared to November 1978, resu ting in estimated I travel for the month at 120,119 million vehicle miles. This total i f includes 42,731 million vehicle miles on main ruraf roads, 11,643 million I vehicle miles on other rural roads, and 65,744 milnion vehicle miles on I city streets. I Travel for the current month as well as the cumulakive yearly total on main rural roads and for all raads and streets is bhown below. Similar totals for each year since 1970 are also included.! i i TRAVEL IN MILLIONS I I Main Rural Roads All Roads and Streets November Year to Date November Year to Date 1 Traffic Volume Trends is a monthly report prepared by the Planning Services I Branch, Highway Statistics Division, based on hourly traffic count data. These data collected at approximately 4,000 continuous traffic counting iZ 3 locations nationwide, are used to determine the percent change in traffic ! for the current month compared to the same month i~the previous year. 1 This percent change is applied to the travel for the same period in V 9 the previous year to obtain travel for the current period.
