Prior to suffering an ankle injury (April 6) and a partial tear to his plantar plate in his right foot (April 18) that currently has him sidelined indefinitely, Turner was on pace to set career highs and franchise records on the defensive end. • Turner is looking to earn his first appearance on the NBA's All-Defensive Team. He has ranked in the NBA's top five in blocks during each of the last four seasons (2016-20), including the 2018-19 campaign in which he led the league. • Turner currently leads the NBA in blocks per game with an average of 3.4, and has led the league since Indiana's Opening Night victory over the Dec. 23 in which he tied his career high with eight blocks. • Despite missing 25 games due to injury, Turner led the NBA with 3.4 blocks per game during the regular season. He ranked second in total blocks with 159 rejections, and paced ahead of the NBA's third-leading shot blocker (New York's Nerlens Noel) by 18 blocks while playing 17 fewer games. • He has recorded at least seven blocks three times this season. Only three other players in the NBA have accomplished that feat once this season. • Turner has blocked five or more shots 12 times this season. No other player in the NBA this season has recorded at least five shots more than seven times. The Pacers are 9-3 when Turner records five or more blocks. • Turner recorded his 800th block of his NBA career at Minnesota, 2/17. He became the sixth player in Pacers franchise history to reach 800 career blocks while doing so as the youngest (24 years old) and in the fewest amount of games (369). He matched that total with eight blocks in the win over Houston, 1/6. Turner (3) is now the fifth player in NBA franchise history to record at least eight blocks in a game more than once (Roy Hibbert (2), (2), Jermaine O'Neal (5), (4)). McConnell tied his career high with 19 points as he shot 9-for-12 from the field, and tied his season high with 15 assists in 35 minutes off the bench in the win over Minnesota April 7. McConnell has recorded three games with 15 assists off the bench this season, becoming the first NBA player since John Stockton in 1986-87 to record at least 15 assists off the bench three times in one season. McConnell turned in a historic performance in the win at Cleveland March 3 as he fueled Indiana's victory with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals in 36 minutes off the bench. - McConnell's 10 steals set a franchise record, passing the previous record of nine set by on Nov. 29, 1980. BALANCING ACT Indiana is 23-17 this season when two or players score 20 or more points, including a 13-4 mark when at least three players score 20+ in a game. The Pacers have had seven instances this season in which seven players scored in double figures and are 5-2 in those games. In their game at Sacramento Jan. 11, four players scored 20 or more points, marking only the fifth time since 2001 that the Pacers have had four players score 20 or more points in one game.

BENCH BOOST Indiana's bench ranked 15th in the NBA in bench scoring this season at 36.3 points per game, but ranked third in the league as a unit in assists (10.0), fifth in steals (3.4), fourth in field goal percentage (.475) and fifth in free throw percentage (.812). The Pacers are 27-21 this season when their bench combines for 30 or more points, and 5-0 when the bench combines for 50 or more. Indiana's bench combined to score a season-best 60 points during its road win at Miami, 3/19.

THE INJURY BUG Indiana has battled injuries again throughout the 2020-21 campaign, most notably to starters and key rotation players in , Caris LeVert, Myles Turner and T.J. Warren. 15 players have combined to miss a total of 250 games due to injury and illness this season while Nate Bjorkgren has used 23 different starting lineups. The Pacers were plagued by injuries throughout the 2019-20 regular season. 13 players on the roster combined to miss 192 games last year. The Pacers employed a total of 22 different starting lineups through 73 regular season games. That total was more than the total of starting lineups used over the previous two seasons combined (nine in 2017-18, 11 in 2018-19). By comparison, the Pacers had a total of 103 games missed due to injury and used a total of 11 different combinations throughout the entire 2018-19 regular season.

WINS WITHOUT WARREN Indiana has played most of the 2020-21 season without its leading scorer from a season ago, forward T.J. Warren. Warren underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot and will miss the remainder of the season. He averaged 15.5 points per game on 52.9 percent shooting and had reached double figures in three straight games, including a season-high 23 points in the road win at Chicago, 12/26, prior to his injury. Warren set new career highs during his first season in Indiana in 2019-20 with 19.8 points per game on 53.6 percent shooting. He was named to the NBA All-Seeding Games First Team last August after averaging 31.0 points per game during his six appearances during the restart in Orlando. Warren ranked third among all players in Orlando in scoring, 10th in field goal percentage (.578) and 10th in 3-point percentage (.524). During the Pacers' first game after the restart on Aug. 1, T.J. Warren set career highs with 53 points as he shot 20-for-29 from the field, 9-for-12 from 3-point range and 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the win over Philadelphia. His 53 points marked the third-highest scoring total in NBA franchise history, and the first time a player has scored 50 or more since Jermaine O'Neal scored 55 against Milwaukee on Jan. 4, 2005. Warren's 20 field goals made and nine 3-pointers tied franchise records. His nine 3s were the most in a regulation game in team history (Paul George made nine during an overtime win against New Orleans on Nov. 21, 2012). Warren had never made more than four 3-pointers in a game prior to that outing. Of the four players in NBA franchise history who have scored 50 or more points in a game, Warren posted the highest field goal percentage (.690) of any (O'Neal shot 18-for-28 from the field, 64.3 percent, during his 55-point outing). After an “exhaustive and thorough search,” Pacers President of Basketball Operations was sure he found the right coach for the job. “We felt like this was a no-brainer,” said Pritchard. “When we came to a decision, there were high fives in our office and we knew we had the right guy. We looked at a couple different characteristics that we wanted out of our coach. . .one was a winning pedigree, someone who has won, whether it be as an assistant or as a head coach. If you’re getting to the top consistently, we put that as a super important characteristic.” Bjorkgren’s intelligence, youth, enthusiasm, adaptability, professional approach and ability to relate to players resonated with Pritchard and his staff. The right guy, right place, right time for today’s NBA. “I’ve spent the last 23 years of my life coaching in just about every situation I could coach in,” Bjorkgren said. “Those 23 years have led me to this point and I’m ready to take on this challenge. I love this team. I love the pieces that we have and they’re going to be a tough team to beat.” And he plans to be a tough coach to beat as well. During the interview process, Pritchard, Chad Buchanan and Assistant GM Kelly Krauskopf would hit coaching candidates with “boardwork,” philosophies and different coaching scenarios. Bjorkgren excelled in all areas. Born in Storm Lake, IA, he played collegiately at where he played for an assistant coach, . He later transferred to Buena Vista University where he was part of the school’s first Conference Championship in the last 21 years in 1997. He graduated from Buena Vista in 1998. Bjorkgren started his professional coaching career in 2007 with the Energy, where he was assistant under Nick Nurse until 2011. While he was with the Energy, the team won three division titles; and in his final season with the Energy, the team won the D League Championship. He started his professional head coaching career with the and also coached the , Iowa Energy and Bakersfield Jam. His combined D League head coaching record was 134-82 (.620). During those four seasons, he led teams to the D League Finals, a Showcase Cup Championship and two Division Titles. Prior to his hiring by the Pacers, he spent the last two seasons as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors, where he was part of the team’s first NBA Championship in 2019. Bjorkgren is married to Heidi and they have two children, Kaylee (10) and Jarrett (8).
