Following Monday’s loss, Clinton is alone in fourth place in the West Division, 2.5 games behind first-place Quad Cities Current Streak: Lost 1 (11-5). Today marks Clinton’s third day below second-place in this half…the Kings have spent 16 days at-or- above second since the All-Star break (six days in first, 10 days in second). After hitting .269 with three HR and 19 RBI in the first half, Carroll is hitting .306 (11-for-36) with two HR and five RBI so far in the second half. Hitting: .249 (10th) ERA: 3.30 (2nd) High Nun: Leadoff man Luis Nunez is 8-for-26 (.307) with five runs scored (1-for-5 with a run on HR: 75 Strikeouts: 640 Monday) since seeing his nine-game hitting streak snapped on 7/3 in Cedar Rapids. Signed as a free agent out of Santo Steals: 87 Saves: 21 - Domingo, Dominican Republic in 2005, Nunez played the entire 2009 season with Clinton, hitting .284 with 14 doubles, a HR, 57 runs and 33 RBI…he hit in 17-straight from 5/28/09 to 6/16/09, batting .382 (29-for-76). TEAM LEADERS Emerging Ace: Good things are coming in threes for Jimmy Gillheeney …Sunday’s start marked the Average: Nick Franklin (.285) third-straight 7.0-inning outing (matching his career-high), third-straight win and third-straight quality start for the Johnston, Rhode Island native. RBI: Vinnie Catricala (45) Stolen Bases: Daniel Carroll (21) The Fantastic Franklin: 19-year-old shortstop Nick Franklin enjoyed a breakout 2-for-3 game in Wins: Jimmy Gillheeney (7) Sunday’s win at Kane County, tying the team record for runs scored in a game this season with four…he himself set that record, scoring four times in his most impressive performance of the year, 4/10 vs. Peoria. In Innings: Jimmy Gillheeney (98.2) that game, Franklin doubled, tripled and homered from both sides of the plate, falling a single shy of Clinton’s ERA: Erasmo Ramirez (2.80) first cycle since Josh Spoerl did it on 7/19/00 at Kane County. He ended an 11-game homer drought Quality Starts: Jimmy Gillheeney (9) Sunday , lifting Dan Straily’s pitch out to right in the seventh. Seattle’s first-round pick (27 th overall) in 2009 Strikeouts: Jimmy Gillheeney (88) and the #9 prospect in the Mariners’ system according to Baseball America , Franklin is amongst MWL leaders Holds: Brian Moran (4) in several categories, including home runs (3 rd with 15), HR/AB ratio (4th with one HR per 20.33 at-bats), Saves: Brandon Josselyn (11) total bases (T-4th with 157), slugging pct (6 th at .515), runs scored (7th with 56) and OPS (9 th at .857). Joss is the Boss: One day removed from suffering his fourth blown save and seeing his eight-game, 10.0-inning scoreless streak snapped, Kings’ closer Brandon Josselyn was back at it Sunday, this time notching his team-leading 11 th save of the year. He stranded two inherited runners in relief of right-hander Daniel Cooper , throwing one pitch to induce a game-ending groundout from Jason Christian. Seattle’s 25 th round pick out of Yale University in 2009, Josselyn has saved 11 games in 15 tries this season and did not allow a run from 6/13 through 7/4, the second-longest scoreless streak by a Clinton reliever this year…his 10.0 innings trails only the 15.1-inning streak posted by current High Desert lefty Brian Moran . Josselyn’s 3.15 ERA (12 ER in 34.2 IP) ranks second amongst active relievers on the club, trailing only left-hander Jose Jimenez’s 2.43 ERA (11 ER in 40.2 IP).
