ABSTRACT The selected New York City Places point file was created as a guide to New York City’s non- neighborhood place locations that appear in the “New York: A City of Neighborhoods” map poster and webpage. These place locations includes parks, cemeteries, and airports. Best estimates of label centroids were established at a 1:1,000 scale, but are ideally viewed at a 1:50,000 scale.

PURPOSE These points were created as a guide to New York City’s non-neighborhood place locations that appear in the “New York: A City of Neighborhoods” map poster and webpage.

LINEAGE LINEAGE STATEMENT The “New York: A City of Neighborhoods” selected New York City Places point file, formerly Areas of Interest, has undergone minor revisions since the 2010 release. The revisions include the addition of place labels, modification of existing place centroids positions, deletion of place labels, and place name updates. In addition, the attribute table also identifies the place by type: park, cemetery, Gateway National Recreation Area, or general area of interest. A description of the changes is detailed below:

Additions: Hudson Yards in Manhattan, Navy Yard in Brooklyn, and Breezy Point in Queens are new place.

Modified Positions: For increased positional accuracy, the label centroid for Spring Creek Park was modified.

Deletions: South Shore Golf Course in Staten Island is no longer among the selected places.

Name Updates: In the Bronx, the Zoo/Wildlife Conservation Park is represented by Bronx Zoo the Botanical Garden has been changed to the New York Botanical Garden, and Sound View Park has been changed to Soundview Park. In Brooklyn, Red Hook Park is now labeled as the Red Hook Recreation Area. Clear View Park in Queens has been changed to Clearview Park. To reflect the transformation of the now-closed Fresh Kills Landfill on Staten Island to a park the label has been changed to Freshkills Park. Spring Creek Park Preserve and Spring Creek Park Gateway National Recreation Area is represented by Spring Creek Park.
