Students will not necessarily be with their group leader(s) on excursions but there will always be enough members of staff on each excursion. Monday full-day excursions are by agency groups. Sundays: Group Leaders are free to organize Sundays as they wish. Most groups choose to go to city centre. Student travelling without a Group Leader will be looked after by our Activity Supervisors. We use public transport to reach city centre on a Sunday. The Bus Fare is not included in the programme fees. Bus Fare is 1.40 € each way for children and 2.70 each for adults. Bus Drivers only accept coins and do not give change so that it is preferable to have € the exact change. Please talk to the Centre Manager about renting a Leap Card from Alpha College for reduced bus fares. Sample Campus Activities: Sports: Football, Rounders, Basketball, Dodgeball, Tag Rugby, Irish Football & Hurling, Swimming, occasionally volleyball. Arts & Crafts: painting, drawing, clay, tie dye, origami. Social Games: ping pong, card games, board games, poker, table quiz, ice breakers. Excursions Descriptions: Glendalough: Visit the famous ancient monastic site, featuring Celtic crosses and a typical Irish round tower, in the magnificent background of the Wicklow Mountains. Causey Farm: Be Irish for a Day at this traditional Irish farm! Irish Dancing and Music, trip to the bog, turf-cutting and sheepdog demonstration are a few of the activities on the programme. **Causey Farm is a working farm; clothes and shoes will get muddy. It is essential to wear old shoes and clothes for this excursion. It is also essential to bring a change of clothes and shoes on the day. Ardgillan Castle & Skerries: Ardgillan Castle Ireland’s hidden gem. Set in spectacular parklands overlooking the Irish Sea with a magnificent view of the Mourne Mountains. Once we have visited the castle and taken in the views, we will head to the charming seaside village of Skerries. Waterford: Visit the oldest city in Ireland, learn all about the Viking and their Treasures, and enjoy a stroll along the city centre’s vibrant shops and cafes! Walking Tour of Dublin – Take a walk around Dublin’s city centre landmarks from the main avenue of O’Connell St to famous Trinity College, and through the hip-area of Temple Bar. GPO Witness History Museum: “an immersive, interactive and engaging tour of life in Ireland during the Easter 1916 Rising”, housed in a major historical landmark: the General Post Office. National Museum of Ireland, Archaeology: learn about Irish history and discover a range of original artefacts, from the Stone Age to the Vikings to the Christian era. National Museum of Ireland, Natural History: Feel the weight of an elephant tooth or handle a lion skull, hear about the eel that choked on a frog and investigate the threats to Irish wildlife. These are a few of the discoveries that await our students at the Dead Zoo, as it is commonly known in Dublin. Dublinia: Discover the history of Dublin city from its founding by the Vikings to Medieval times. EPIC Museum: “EPIC tells the moving and unforgettable stories of those who left the island of Ireland, and how they influenced and shaped the world”. Croke Park Stadium and the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) Museum: learn about the Irish national sports and their influence in Irish history and culture. Dalkey Castle: Professional actors bring history to life with a fun theatre performance as part of the guided tour. Bray Walk: located just outside Dublin and nestled between the sea and the Wicklow mountains, Bray is known as the Gateway to the Garden of Ireland. It features a lovely promenade along the beach and one of the most striking cliff walk in the area. For those who are up to it, we will also climb the hill of Bray Head! .
