Fabric & Supplies
• 11 ¾” x 13” cotton fabric (front) • 13” x 18” cotton fabric (back) • 13” x 18” cotton batting • 5” x 7” navy/stars fabric • 6 pcs. 1” x 8 ¼” white fabric • 7 pcs. 1” x 8 ¼” red fabric • 2 strips 2 ½” x WOF (binding) • Variegated thread (red, white ,blue) • Sewing thread • 3.0 twin needle

Sewing Instructions:
1. Thread machine and bobbin with sewing thread. 2. Attach Patchwork foot to machine. 3. Sew a red 1” x 8 ¼” strip to a white 1” x 8 ¼” strip. Press seams open. 4. Continue sewing strips together. There should be a red strip at the beginning and end of the strip set.
5. Sew 5” x 7” navy/stars fabric to one end of the red/white strip section.

Quilting with Twin Needle 1. Attach Standard foot “A” to machine. 2. Insert 3.0 twin needle. 3. Thread machine and bobbin with variegated thread. To thread the machine, thread both threads through the normal threading path and thread one thread through each needle. 4. Select straight stitch. Width 3.0. Do not use a wider width. Make sure the needle clears the sides of the foot or the needle will break. 5. Draw a 45° line on the fabric front. Draw a line 1” from that line across the entire front. You can continue drawing lines or you can use the quilting guide to space each line. 6. Place the batting on the wrong side of the backing. Place the fabric front on top of the batting towards the left side. 7. Sew down one line. Do not backstitch. The thread tails will be secured in another seam. 8. Continue sewing all lines. If you choose to use the Quilting Guide instead of drawing lines, attach the quilting guide, as per the photo, into the hole on the standard presser foot “A”. Place the quilting guide on the previous stitch, set the guide at 1”, and sew the next row.

9. Sew all the diagonal lines going one way.
10. Mark diagonal lines going the other way, creating a crosshatch pattern. Sew down these lines.
Putting It All Together
1. Attach Patchwork foot to machine. 2. Thread machine and bobbin with sewing thread. 3. Place flag section (right sides together) onto the front piece. Sew the seam. 4. Flip flag section over and press in place. 5. Trim edges even, if needed.

6. Sew the binding strip ends together to make one continuous strip. 7. Attach binding.
