The month of October included their first showcase in Calgary and their home opener against cross-town rival OHA Edmonton. The focus for the team in practices has been generating in-zone offence, specifically with three lanes of shooting. The forwards have focused on cycles, scissoring to create lanes, staying wide on the breakout, and finding soft spots, while the defense has been focused on surfing, connection to the play, and eliminating stick handling to get pucks north. A busy month will see the 15s play in their first tournament of the year as they travel to Kelowna November 22-25. Focal points in practice included special teams, offensive zone entries, and skills. The focus of the powerplay was constantly being a shooting threat and creating three lanes of offence, while the penalty kill worked on the arrow head technique, and creating relentless pressure on the opposing team. Offensive zone entries focused on creating layers of support, with both width and depth. The skills coaches taught low and high scoring options on the powerplay, net front play in the defensive zone, and puck protection of jab steps. The team heads into a very busy November playing a total of 10 league games. Eight of these games will be split up with showcases in Delta and Winnipeg. It is imperative that the girls pre plan for the road academically and have good communication with their teachers. Self-care, rest, hydration, nutrition and time management, will be extremely important during this month. The next two weekends will be a true test for the team playing against some good academies. The boys have been working hard on the ice and in the gym. A lot of our focus the past couple weeks have been on in zone attacks as well as offensive rush attacks. One area as a team we can approve on is capitalizing on our chances and getting bodies in-front of their goalie. MISSION STATEMENT TO CREATE AN ENVIRONMENT THAT GIVES EVERY STUDENT- ATHLETE THE BEST POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITY TO ACHIEVE AND SURPASS INDIVIDUAL POTENTIAL THROUGH STRUCTURE, SUPPORT, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE. MESSAGE FROM DIXON WARD VICE PRESIDENT At the Okanagan Hockey Academy our primary focus is to promote the long-term development of each of our athletes in the classroom, on the ice, and in the community. Putting young, motivated people in a structured environment, surrounded by a world class staff and support system, allows us to deliver a consistent message and value system that we feel is imperative to the long term development of our students. We believe that elite athletes need to be challenged, yet supported, in all aspects of their lives. We hold our student-athletes accountable on their efforts, attention to details, and above all their attitudes. We have learned through experience that those three key ingredients are keys to future success. OHA is built on experience, knowledge, passion for our game, and above all, OHA is built on each individual’s mark left behind as they move on to achieve their goals. The commitment to excellence in all areas is what makes the Okanagan Hockey Academy a tremendous opportunity for any young and aspiring hockey player. HUMAN PERFORMANCE The Okanagan Hockey Human Performance Program is designed to provide a singular outcome/ goal for all parts of the program. THE MODEL FOCUSES ON THESE KEY COMPONENTS: • Academics • Strength, Conditioning, Medical • Hockey • Character, Leadership, Community We want to take each of these components and separate them as individual program units that are concentrated on increasing Human Performance with each of our student-athletes.

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tellier Pharmacy Supports World Event
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Tellier Pharmacy Supports World Event (Bonnyville, Alberta – June 16, 2016) Tellier Guardian Pharmacy today announced a $10,000 sponsorship for the 2016 World Jr. A Challenge. The WJAC is a showcase of Canadian and International Junior A talent and it’s returning to Alberta for the second time in tournament history when Bonnyville welcomes the event December 11-17, 2016. “This is such an exciting opportunity to be apart of,” said Owners Paul & Ruth Tellier. “We thought the team sponsorship package fits perfectly with what our business is all about,” added Paul Tellier. “Not only do we get to assist in bringing this world class event to our town but with the Team Sponsorship package there’s an element to incorporate our youth as well. We have been serving the community for 45 years and we’re so delighted to partner with community members to put Bonnyville on the map.” “This is the largest event, hockey or otherwise, ever to come to Bonnyville.” Said Robb Hunter Committee Co- Chair. “The World Junior Challenge’s economic impact to its host community has been historically well over $2 million,” Hunter said. “In these challenging economic times, our group, and the Bonnyville Pontiacs organization saw the World Junior A Challenge as a way to give back to the community, help fill hotel rooms, fill restaurants and bring people to our region who will spend money in our stores.” While the tournament will bring much-needed relief to the service industry, hit hard by the drop in oil prices, the tournament is also a chance to bring world-class hockey to a community that lives and breathes the sport.
