The 150Th Issue ` Alyth Voice www.alythvoice.co.uk 150th Edition, September 2010 Minimum Circulation 1725 © I Grant CONGRATULATIONS SIR IAN GRANT At the Palace of Holyroodhouse on 13th July 2010, local resident Ian Grant received a Knight Bachelor from HM The Queen. Back in February the Alyth Voice reported on the news of a knighthood for the man better known as “Grant o’ the Thorn”. The rank of Knight Bachelor is one of the most ancient types of British Knight, noted as far back as the 13th Century when Henry III was on the throne. The KB insignia (shown left) was authorised by HM King George V in 1926 and is described on Wikipedia in heraldic terms as “an oval medallion of vermilion, enclosed by a scroll a cross-hilted sword belted and sheathed, pommel upwards, between two spurs, rowels upwards, the whole set about with the sword belt, all gilt.” Pictured with Sir Ian and Lady Eileen Grant are their daughters, from left, Catherine (Simpson), Jane (Whyte) and Rosie (Leven). The Alyth Voice is a free monthly newsletter, managed, written, and delivered by volunteers. ALYTH CELEBRATES ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY VOICES Thirteen years on, the Alyth Voice proudly presents its 150th edition. To mark this milestone a Cancer Charity Box will be located in Michael Kay’s shop, 13 Airlie Street, from 1st September to 22nd October. The total raised will be announced at the Voice Coffee Morning on Saturday 23rd October, and will be divided between cancer charities, continuing our fund-raising efforts from the Alyth Voice 2010 calendar. The Team hopes everyone who appreciates receiving their FREE copy of the Alyth Voice will consider donating to this worthwhile cause. Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way to the Alyth Voice during the past thirteen years. For a wee toon like Alyth, it’s amazing what can be done when volunteers get together. Here’s to the 200th edition! 1st Edition, 5th May 1997 50th Edition, July 2001 100th Edition, April 2006 150th Edition, September 2010 FROM ALYTH TO INDIA or 6 month placements. 4(3)(ii) 11/396 Perth and Kinross Council Development Control Committee – 17 August 2011 Report of Handling by Development Quality Manager Erection of 12 affordable (one bedroom) flats, Perth and Kinross Council, Rie- Achan Road, Pitlochry, PH16 5AL Ref. No: 11/01117/FLL Ward No: 4 - Highland Summary This report recommends approval of the application for the erection of 12 affordable flats as the revised design and scale of the building is considered to relate well with the surrounding features of the Conservation Area and the proposal is considered to comply with the provisions of the Development Plan. This proposal is considered to address the reasons for refusal of the previous application (11/00023/FLL). BACKGROUND AND DESCRIPTION 1 Full planning consent is sought for the erection of 12 affordable flats at the site of a former Perth and Kinross Council building at Dalchanpaig on Rie- Achan Road in Pitlochry. The application site is located within Pitlochry Conservation Area. The application site is owned by Perth and Kinross Council and as such there is a requirement for this application to be referred to the Development Control Committee. This application is a follow up to a previous refusal (11/00023/FLL). That application was refused at the Development Control Committee on 13 April 2011. The grounds for refusal included the design, materials and detrimental impact on the visual amenity and the failure to protect or enhance the Conservation Area. 2. The application site is situated on Rie-Achan Road which sits to the south of Atholl Road, the main road through Pitlochry.

INTRODUCTION On behalf of the Nominations Committee I am delighted to present the candidates for the Western Hemisphere Regional Committee 2019-2022. As well as the recommendation from their Member Organisation (MO), all candidates who are standing were asked to provide a professional reference, and were interviewed by the Nominations Committee in order to know them better and prepare this summary. For the first time, all candidates were asked to submit a short video of themselves as part of their nomination. These videos will be available to Member Organisations to view on the Regional Conference page of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) website. Where candidates currently hold a significant position in their Member Organisation, they have been asked to relinquish this role within six months, if elected. This is partly to ensure no conflict of interest, and partly to ensure that they are able to devote sufficient time to the work of the Committee. As well as the personal statement the candidates have provided examples of how they believe they have demonstrated some of the key skills needed for a member of the Regional Committee. These candidates are talented women, with other skills not listed here due to limited space.
