One of QNL’s functions is to support education and research at all levels by providing print and digital library materials for students, researchers and the Qatar wider community. We are pleased to present to you in this letter the most important services and programs QNL currently offers.

 Electronic Resources

QNL currently provides free access to a vast collection of online resources, which include e-books, e-journals, music, videos, children educational and entertainment materials, as well as other materials. This service is only available to QNL registered members.

Anyone who lives in Qatar and has a valid Qatari ID/Residence Permit is eligible for free library registration, which can be easily done by filling up the electronic registration form available through this link https://library.qnl.qa/selfreg and sending a scan of the person’s valid Qatari ID/ Residence Permit (both sides) to [email protected]. QNL registered members can also register their children (from 0-17 years of age) to become QNL members.

We will be happy to coordinate with you a visit by our registration team to your esteemed institution to facilitate the registration of your staff with QNL.

 The Heritage Collection

The QNL’s Heritage Collection is open to visits by the public. Visitors can view an extensive collection of cultural and historical treasures including manuscripts, historical maps and globes, scientific instruments, early photography, as well as writings by travelers who explored the Arabian Gulf region over the centuries.

QNL uses state-of-the-art technology for the digital preservation of these precious heritage materials for the future generations.

The Collection is currently located at 71 Al-Maha Street in Al-Luqta, , but tours should be booked in advance through the QNL’s website: www.qnl.qa.

The Qatar Digital Library (QDL) is one of QNL’s major achievements and initiatives. Launched in October 2014, QDL (www.qdl.qa) is the result of an ongoing partnership between Qatar Foundation, the Qatar National Library and the .

QDL serves as a valuable resource to academics, researchers, students and the wider global community and is freely available for everyone in the world. It presents a wealth of information on the politics, people, places, trade, culture and customs of the Gulf region and the Middle East, as well the Arab Islamic sciences.

 Events and Activities

QNL also holds a number of local events and activities such as book discussions, children’s events, training sessions on the use of its online resources and other cultural and community events and activities. The Library also participates in many local, regional and international initiatives, exhibitions and conferences.

 Other services

QNL provides a national reference service called ‘Ask QNL Librarians’ through its website. This service connects people who have questions, whether research, study or even general ones, with the appropriate resources.

QNL is also committed to supporting open access publishing and ensuring opportunities for scholars and disciplines across Qatar to publish in open access journals. The QNL’s Open Access Authors Fund pays article processing fees for articles in open access (OA) journals that use this funding method. This fund is available as a pilot project for the fiscal year ending on 30 June, 2016.
