Preface Gregor Johann Mendel, an Austrian priest (1822-1884), discovered universal heredity rules, i.e. the "Mendel's laws," in the 19th century. With a few exceptions, not only the horses but also the humans receive their own genes from their parents under the said laws. Nevertheless, we may be unrestrained when discussing the breeding of Thoroughbred, so that the laws established even more than one century ago is likely to be ignored. It is possible to trace the Thoroughbred's pedigree back to around 1700, but the fact that the records of those days are suspicious has been coming out after detailed scientific verification. I have heard a proverb saying, "History is a fabrication generally accepted." Still, are you going to overlook such suspicious records? Taking account of the foregoing, I would like to discuss the topics of the following chapters, provided that they are based on the contents of the previous version of this book adding some new opinions, containing the articles that I wrote for some publications. 1. What Is Scientific Importance of Dam Lineage? 2.What Is Truth in Pedigree Record? 3. What Is Heredity Mechanism of Coat Color? 4. What Is Inbreeding? 5. What ls Truth in All Sorts of Pedigree Theories? 6. What ls Essential to Future Breeding in Japan? 1. What Is Scientific Importance of Dam Linease? Seekinq Better Layout of Tree Diagram When you look up some noun word, the paper dictionary will instantly give you many of not only the related words, e.g. the forms of verb, adverb and adjective, but the relevant idioms, illustrative sentences, etc., as well as the meaning of the original word.

  • The 65Th Yasuda Kinen
FROM: Haruyuki Miyoshi General Manager, Media & Publicity Department, THE JAPAN RACING ASSOCIATION (JRA) DATE: June 7, 2015 SUBJECT: RESULT OF THE 65TH YASUDA KINEN (G1) The Yasuda Kinen, a race to determine the best miler of the spring season, has welcomed just over 50 foreign-trained horses since its designation as an international race in 1993, including 1995 champion Heart Lake (GB, by Nureyev) from the UAE, 2000 winner Fairy King Prawn (AUS, by Danehill) from Hong Kong and the winner of the 2006 Champions Mile-Yasuda Kinen double, Bullish Luck (USA, by Royal Academy). The race, however, was contested without any participation from abroad this year for the first time in 12 years. Past Yasuda Kinen winners that have subsequently become the season’s Horse of the Year include Oguri Cap (JPN, by Dancing Cap; ’90), Taiki Shuttle (USA, by Devil's Bag; ’98), Vodka (JPN, by Tanino Gimlet; ’08&’09) and Lord Kanaloa (JPN, by King Kamehameha; ’13). Last year, Just a Way (JPN, by Heart’s Cry), who had come off an overwhelming victory in the Dubai Duty Free (G1, 1,800m) and was subsequently named the World’s Best Racehorse, claimed the race by a nose on soft going. This year’s contenders included: Danon Shark, winner of last year’s Mile Championship (G1, 1,600m), who finished fifth in the Hankyu Hai (G3, 1,400m) held on March 1 and avoided the Milers Cup (G2, 1,600m) on April 26 due to a stone bruise; Red Arion who registered his first grade-race victory in the Milers Cup; Fiero, runner-up of the Mile Championship and third-place finisher of the

COMPILED SPECIFICALLY FOR Frankel (GB) STALLION AFFINITY REPORT A comprehensive stallion analysis with all active broodmare sires Copyright © 2020 The Jockey Club Information Systems, Inc. STALLION AFFINITY REPORT TrueNicks: An Explanation Nicks in History Compatibilities between stallions from one sire line with mares of another sire line has helped shape the breed since the Eclipse/Herod cross of the late 18th century. These successful crosses, called nicks, have impacted Thoroughbred development through such examples as Hermit/Stockwell, Lexington/Glencoe, Bend Or/Macaroni, and Phalaris/Chaucer. In the modern era, the prolific Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross has produced outstanding racehorses and sires such as Kingmambo, Distorted Humor, and Elusive Quality. Fast-Forward to the 21st Century Computer databases have made it possible to measure and rate nicks, giving rise to a commercial market for such statistics. The first nick ratings offered to the public, though popular, were compromised by incomplete data and yielded results based on hypothetical rather than actual opportunity. This statistical gap was the impetus behind the development of TrueNicks. A Statistically Valid Approach Unlike other ratings that are calculated based on hypothetical opportunity within a limited group of horses, TrueNicks references the international database of The Jockey Club—the world’s most complete record of Thoroughbreds and their performance—to produce a sophisticated rating based on all starters and stakes winners on a given cross. The Statistics The TrueNicks rating is derived from two statistical elements: the Sire Improvement Index (SII) and the Broodmare Sire Improvement Index (BSII). Each figure compares the percentage of progeny stakes winners to starters.
