Olympiacos in suspicious Europa League match: - The Northern Irish referee Arnold Hunter has been drawn in to the match-fixing scandal surrounding Olympiacos over his performance in Anderlecht’s 2:1 Europa League win over the Greek champion. Hunter gave a penalty to Olympiacos even though the Anderlecht center-half had very clearly controlled the ball with his knee and his head. The highlights also made clear two separate incidents that involved potential red-card offences by Olympiacos players for which Hunter only issued yellow cards.1

Goa FA sends notice to Saligao Sporting: - Saligao defeated Vagator PYSC 3:2 in what was being labelled by many as match-fixing as the win enabled the Saligao Club to avoid relegation from the GFA second division league. Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club (PYSC) vehemently denied all charges of match-fixing. Vagator with thirteen points had already qualified for the next round while Saligao needed to win at all cost [the many reasons why the match could have been fixed are listed in the link below].1

New betting scandal in European football? - According to the WDR’s investigations, there have been irregular betting movements in connection with two football matches in Europe’s top leagues. The suspicious bets were placed in betting shops in Southern Germany and were placed on a Belgian 1st Division and the Dutch 1st Division match. In the Belgian match between Ostend and Waasland-Beveren (3:3), suspicious bets were placed predicting that at least three goals would be scored. In the match in the Dutch 1st Division, Nijmegen vs. Willem II (1:0), suspicious bets were placed on a home win for Nijmegen. Overall the bookmaker paid out a five-figure sum.1.

League of Ireland players are being targeted by match-fixers: - Four League of Ireland players have contacted the Player’s Football Association of Ireland in the past year claiming they have been approached online by people claiming to be able to fix matches. PFAI’s General Secretary said the FAI’s deal with TrackChamp has opened up League of Ireland players to becoming vulnerable to match-fixers. The deal sees all Premier Division matches streamed online on specific betting websites.1

Romanian manager suspended for betting: - The current leader of Romania’s top football league, Astra Giurgiu, has lost its coach just before the playoffs. Marius Sumudica has been suspended from all football-related activities for the next six months for betting on football matches. The Romanian Football Federation also fined him EUR 22’400. Sumudica was accused of betting on football matches in the local first league as well as on other sports.1

Harrogate Town player faces FA betting rap: - Harrogate Town midfielder Warren Burrell is facing a rap from the FA after posting a photo of his betting slip. Burrell posted a snapshot of a football accumulator which would have returned more than £600 from a £30 stake had Sheffield Wednesday beaten Rotherham United. Semi- professional and professional footballers playing within the top eight tiers of the game are banned from betting on football matches from anywhere in the world.1

FIFA extends sanctions imposed on 23 players and officials in Italy: - FIFA today confirmed the worldwide extension of sanctions imposed on several officials and players by the Italian Football Association’s Sport-Justice Bodies and the Collegio di Garanzia dello Sport of the Italian National Olympic Committee relating to incidents of match manipulation and illegal betting that took place between 2014 and 2015 in different Italian football competitions. ZIFA alleges that Edzai Kasinauyo was part of a syndicate trying to fix the country’s upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier against Swaziland. Investigations are ongoing.1 - ZIFA has provisionally suspended national team assistant coach Nation Dube over allegations of match-fixing. Dube as well as Kasinauyo denied the allegations. ZIFA president Philip Chiyangwa: “We have a solid case, no-one will escape, the perpetrators are in big trouble.” Chiyangwa says that the main evidence is sworn affidavits from national team coach Kalisto Pasuwa and an undisclosed informant.2 - A Zimbabwean newspaper has named Ian Gorowa and two PSL players among those involved in the latest match-fixing scandal to rock the country. Paulista calls in Sportradar: - For the first time on the continent, a South America football rightsholder has enlisted the services of a match-fixing detection service. Three SAFA officials banned by FIFA: - An investigation into alleged match-fixing before the 2010 World Cup has resulted in three former South African Football Association (SAFA) officials being banned, FIFA has confirmed. Former SAFA chief executive officer Leslie Sedibe has been given a five-year ban from all football related activities as well as a fine of 20’000 CHF. Steve Goddard and Adeel Carelse, who each served as SAFA’s head of referees, have been given suspensions of two years.1

Kargbo says his career is murdered: - Former Sierra Leone national team captain, Ibrahim Kargbo, is still restive grumbling over match- fixing allegation against him and the negative effect on his football career. AFL: Player using phone mid-match: - Corey Norman has come under fire for using his mobile phone mid-game, whilst sitting in the change room during the second half. Norman suffered a nasty head-knock and was returning to the locker room. Hayden Ballantyne was thrust into the spotlight recently, after he was also spotted on his phone mid-match. Tennis: Banned match-fixer claims ATP ruined his life: - A banned tennis player has launched a scathing attack on the men’s professional tour, labelling the ATP a mafia organization. Daniel Koellerer was given a lifetime ban by the ATP in 2011 when he was found guilty of match-fixing through a TIU investigation. Koellerer has called out the ATP for protecting its biggest stars while sacrificing lower ranked players during anti-corruption investigations. Koellerer: “My house, my wife and my child, everything is gone and I was depressed.” He also claimed the was condemned without proof for match-fixing.1

Cricket: International team under corruption investigation: - An international team is under investigation for corruption, the ICC’s anti-corruption unit chairman has revealed. Sir Ronnie Flanagan said the ACU had thwarted attempts to manipulate events in forthcoming matches to facilitate betting, and that action had been initiated against one or two individuals. He refused to elaborate on the ongoing matter.1 - Flanagan said that violators in the game are currently focusing on spot-fixing rather than fixing an entire match.2 - “Normally we would say no comment, but we don’t even know what we are no-commenting on”, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Cricket Association said when asked about the latest scandal to hit the side. A day after Flanagan hinted that a player from an Associate nation was involved in attempting to manipulate events, Dave Richardson, the ICC chief, revealed that it was a recently suspended player. Heal vehemently denies he had any involvement in a bet that was allegedly placed on the team he formerly coached for the Women’s National Basketball League.
