Product Line Manager (PLM) Ethernet Switch

Location: Cleveland, OH Reports to: Director of Engineering

Job purpose

We are seeking a NETWORK ENGINEER/ PRODUCT LINE MANAGER (PLM) with field application engineering responsibilities to play a key role in the growth of our . This position is primarily responsible for managing the complete life cycle of a new portfolio of products for Champion ONE – Ethernet switches. This role is responsible for supporting our sales team from an applications engineering standpoint as well. This includes managing the entire product launch cycle from customer requirements all the way thru launch, commercialization, and customer support. This position will also play a key role in interfacing with our customers to understand their requirements from a technical perspective. The PLM will interface with all facets of our organization including Sales, Engineering, Customer , Production, as well as our senior team. This person will manage our full line of Ethernet switches (including proprietary and white box switches) based on customer and market requirements and discuss with prospective customers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for Product Line and Sales Engineering tasks for Champion ONE’s line of L2/L3 Ethernet switches. This includes managing portfolio revenue and profit, market and product requirements, life cycle management, customer application support, and complete product line management.

• Lead cross-functional teams and own process to devise go-to-market strategies and launch new switches (as needed), to drive the expansion of our switch portfolio. • Develop, manage, and communicate product roadmaps. • Collaborate with team to develop stocking plans for new products. • Identify and quantify market opportunities for new switches related to Tier 1 Telco’s and MSOs and other strategic accounts. • Own and drive P&L for product line and provide quarterly reports. • Serve as subject matter expert with sales team and prospect/customers. • Participate in customer engagements to proactively identify and manage current and future customer, marketing and product requirements. • Develop strategies and implement plans and translate the complex requirements into well-articulated customer solutions. • Provides timely advice to customers regarding the specification, installation and use of products in a variety of application contexts. • Escalate and manage customer issues appropriately to resolve field issues. • Present switches to customers and prospects, validate product requirements and develop use cases. • Understand market issues and trends influencing selection, utilization and optimization of optical networking equipment and maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of relevant industry technologies, applications and standards. • Partner with outside and inside sales reps to support the growth of key accounts and provide insight as needed relevant to product selection, quotations and life cycle management. • Understands competitive landscape and proactively seeks successful tactics and strategies to seek marketplace advantages while communicating competitive and market intelligence to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner. • Travels in field with sales reps to deliver proposals, product demos, and webinars. • Other duties as required by Champion ONE.

Required Skills • Experience with Cisco IOS platforms, Juniper, or other L2/L3 OEM brand switching or routing platforms • Experience configuring and administration of Cisco or equivalent IDS/IPS • Configuration and administration of Cisco or equivalent Security Manager • Experience supporting LAN, WAN, SAN technology solutions • Experience with the following L2 specifications: o IEEE g802.3x (full duplex), back-pressure (half duplex) flow o Storm control (broadcast/multicast/unknown unicast) o L2 protocol tunneling (CDP, PVST, STP, LLDP) o Static trunk link aggregation o Q-in-Q/select Q-in-Q support o Digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) o Packet filtering of L2 control CDP/PVST o Cable diagnostics o UDLD o G.8032 v2 (ERPS) o Hardware stacking o Spanning tree protocols o Vlans o Link Aggregation o IGMP Snooping • Experience with the following L3 specifications: o IPv4 o IPv6 • Experience with QoS • Experience with other switching and routing specifications • Solid understanding of the OSI stack • Solid understanding of TCP/IP including the ability to “read” packet captures to look for communication problems • Understanding of optical transceivers (GBIC, SFP, SFP+, XFP, QSFP+, CFP, etc.) and system design • Significant commercial experience with telecom and data center customers and applications • Field sales engineering skills – ability to engage with customers at a practical design and troubleshooting level and translate into market requirement specifications • Telecom Network, Optical Component and/or other Fiber-optic market experience

Required Qualifications • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent • 4+ years of hands on network engineering experience • 2+ years’ experience with switches and routers and Metro Ethernet/broadband access solutions • 2+ years’ experience in the Telco and MSO industry • Optical networking experience • Ability to travel 20% to 30%

Desired Qualifications • MBA or MS in Electrical Engineering • Relevant OEM vendor technical certifications (Cisco CCIE Routing & Switching, Juniper JNCP, etc.)
