Part 4 Game Selection CS212 GBA April 9, 2008 Below is a list of game suggestions for Part 4 of CS212G, separated into categories of difficulty. If you don't know what a game is, simply Google for: \game title" flash. One of the first few links will be a playable flash version of the game. Note that the versions you implement do not have to have all of the features of the flash versions. 1 Easy • Space Invaders • Lunar Lander • Centipede 2 Intermediate We heavily suggest that these games be implemented as a group. They all involve alot more work, how much more depends on what the scope of features you wish to implement are. • Pacman • Donkey Kong • Frogger • Bomberman 3 Difficult We require these be implemented as a group. They all would be best to use the GBA in ways not explicitly covered in this class (although TAs will be available to guide you in extra topics). • Tetris 1 • Missile Defender • Asteroids 4 1337 Both of these make heavy and complicated use of the affine transformation matricies of sprites and backgrounds to produce psuedo-3D effects. Very cool, not for the faint of heart. • Mario Kart • Antartic Adventure 5 Your Own Idea! If you have an idea for a game you'd like to implement for this part of CS212, that's great! It can be either a game that exists already or an original idea. If this is what you'd like to do, then please type up a short document (about 1/2 page) about the game you'd like to implement, and most importantly, what features you will implement, and how long you believe it will take you (and your group) to implement all these features. -

This is a re-make of the first movie. As Suneo boasts about his fossil, Nobita wants to have his own dinosaur fossil. He digs a hole to search for one, and discovers an elasmosaurus’s egg. When the egg hatches, he names it Pea-suke and nurtures it in a closet, but as it grows too big, the town slips into turmoil. Doraemon and Nobita decide to take Pea-suke back to the Cretaceous period 100 million years ago. While they are on the move in a time machine, they get chased by dinosaur hunters and they send Pea-suke by mistake to North America 100 million years ago. Nobita and Doraemon follow Pea-suke and find him there, but then, their time machine breaks down and Suneo and his friends are caught by dinosaur hunters. Doraemon and Nobita somehow manage to save them, and finally arrive in Japan 100 million years ago. What awaits them there is a flock of Futabassurus suzukii, the same species as Pea-suke. -

Taiko No Tatsujin: Musical Literacy in the Media Mix
Taiko no Tatsujin: Musical literacy in the Media Mix Costantino Oliva University of Malta Institute of Digital Games Msida, MSD2080 [email protected] ABSTRACT This paper analyzes the Taiko no Tatsujin (Bandai Namco, 2001/2018) franchise and the musical literacy it conveys. While previous accounts of game musical literacy have focused on the competence necessary to interpret references across media (van Elferen, 2016), this paper expands on the concept, including forms of musical participation such as live performances and oral traditions. The musical compositions included in Taiko no Tatsujin pertain to the Japanese phenomenon of media convergence known as media mix (Steinberg, 2012), as they have been previously popularized by anime and geemu ongaku (or game music) (Yamakami & Barbosa, 2015). However, the musical participation extends its references to the practice of Japanese taiko drumming, a largely oral, non-notated musical form, which cannot be reduced to a musical repertoire. The conclusions show that game musical literacy is constructed not only on media literacy, but also on various different forms of participation in musical performances, or musicking (Small, 1998), which concur in constructing game musical literacy. The musical culture associated with digital games is therefore expressed through a large variety of musical practices. With more than 50 entries, the series has been deployed on platforms such as PS4, Nintendo Switch, PS Vita, Nintendo Wii, Android mobiles, and more. Arguably, the most recognizable version of Taiko no Tatsujin remains however its arcade iteration, which features two large drum-shaped input devices. -
