First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg July 26, 2020 – 10:00 AM Knowing Christ! Making Him Known!

WELCOME AND INVITATION TO WORSHIP THE LORD I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:12,13

PRELUDE MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE ARR. D. WOOD SONGS OF WORSHIP “Even If” They say sometimes you win some Sometimes you lose some And right now right now I'm losing bad I've stood on this stage night after night Reminding the broken it'll be alright But right now oh right now I just can't It's easy to sing when there's nothing to bring me down But what will I say when I'm held to the flame like I am right now

I know You're able and I know You can Save through the fire with Your mighty hand But even if You don't My hope is You alone

They say it only takes a little faith to move a mountain Well good thing a little faith is all I have right now But God when You choose to leave mountains unmovable Oh give me the strength to be able to sing It is well with my soul

I know the sorrow and I know the hurt would all go away if You just say the word But even if You don't my hope is You alone

You've been faithful You've been good all of my days Jesus I will cling to You Come what may 'Cause I know You're able I know You care

He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him always, you people. Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. PRAYER SIGNS OF PEACE Comment, text, call or turn to those with whom you are watching and offer them the peace of Christ. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE SCRIPTURE LESSON Matthew 17 14 At the foot of the mountain, a large crowd was waiting for them. A man came and knelt before Jesus and said, 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son. He has seizures and suffers terribly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 So I brought him to your disciples, but they couldn’t heal him.” 17 Jesus said, “You faithless and corrupt people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Then Jesus rebuked the demon in the boy, and it left him. From that moment the boy was well. 19 Afterward the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out that demon?” 20 “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” 22 After they gathered again in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. 23 He will be killed, but on the he will be raised from the dead.” And the disciples were filled with grief. HYMN “Give Me the Faith Which Can Remove” (650) Give me the faith which can remove and sink the mountain to a plain; give me the childlike praying love, which longs to build thy house again; thy love, let it my heart o'er-power, and all my simple soul devour. I would the precious time redeem, and longer live for this along, to spend and to be spent for them who have not yet my Savior known; fully on these my mission prove, and only breathe, to breathe thy love. My talents, gifts, and graces, Lord, into thy blessed hands receive; and let me live to preach thy word, and let me to thy glory live; my every sacred moment spend in publishing the sinner's Friend. Enlarge, inflame, and fill my heart with boundless charity divine, so shall I all my strength exert, and love them with a zeal like thine, and lead them to thy open side, the sheep for whom the Shepherd died. MESSAGE Mustard Seed Faith HYMN “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” (452)

My faith looks up to thee, thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine! Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away, O let me from this day be wholly thine!

May thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire! As thou hast died for me, O may my love to thee pure, warm, and changeless be, a living fire!

While life's dark maze I tread, and griefs around me spread, be thou my guide; bid darkness turn to day, wipe sorrow's tears away, nor let me ever stray from thee aside.

When ends life's transient dream, when death's cold, sullen stream shall o'er me roll; blest Savior, then in love, fear and distrust remove; O bear me safe above, a ransomed soul!
