British born Dave Holland, who got his break from , brings his inimitable jazz stylings together with a flamenco twist when he joins Spanish guitarists Pepe Habichuela in concert at the National Concert Hall Wednesday 9 November 2011, 8pm.

Presented by The National Concert Hall and Improvised Music Company the concert is one of three staged as part of The Navigator Series 2011 which also saw Afrocubism, ECM Perspectives artists and the Dublin City Jazz Orchestra perform earlier this year.

A pioneer of his collaboration with the renowned flamenco guitarist Pablo Habichuela is bound to be a thrilling and memorable evening of cross- cultural improvised music-making - a must for all jazz and guitar enthusiasts alike”.

Dave’s latest recording Hands (2010) released on his own label Dare2Records is a collaboration with the veteran flamenco guitar legend, Pepe Habichuela and features Josemi Carmona and Carlos Carmona on guitars and Israel Porrina (Pirana) and Juan Carmona on Percussion and Cajon many of whom will be performing in Dublin.

The pair first met in 2006 when a mutual friend and record producer Mario Pacheco introduced Dave and Pepe. Five years later and they are still performing not only in Europe but also the USA.

Habichuela writes, "We are now two Gypsies, or better yet still, he (Holland) is now a Gypsy, and I am almost an Englishman." With a performing and recording career of over five decades, Holland has lived in the United States for 40 years after famously being discovered by Miles Davis while performing at Ronnie Scott’s. His works range from pieces for solo performance to big band scores.

Spanish guitarist Pepe Habichuela, is part of one of the great flamenco dynasties, the Habichuelas. His adventurous spirit also saw him depart from flamenco to play with free jazz legend Don Cherry and he has also experimented with fusing flamenco and classical Indian music, a development that was born from a project with Nitin Sawhney and which has taken shape in the CD Yerbagüena.
