Mattel Television and Nickelodeon Announce Plans to Produce an Animated Series and Live-Action Television Movie Musical Based on Iconic Monster High Franchise Mattel Television and Nickelodeon Announce Plans to Produce an Animated Series and Live-action Television Movie Musical Based on Iconic Monster High Franchise February 23, 2021 Share it: @Nickelodeon @NickAnimation @Mattel @MonsterHigh #Nickelodeon #MonsterHigh EL SEGUNDO, Calif. & BURBANK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 2021-- Mattel, Inc. (NASDAQ: MAT) and Nickelodeon today announced plans to produce a new animated series and live-action television movie musical based on Monster High, the iconic franchise about the children of famous monsters and creatures. This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20210223005848/en/ The new series follows fan-favorite characters Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, and Frankie Stein as they navigate the hilarity of high school in the hallowed halls of Monster High. The show, which will be available globally across Nickelodeon platforms, is scheduled to premiere in 2022. Similarly, the movie musical event, which marks the first time Monster High will be brought to life in live action, will be (Graphic: Business Wire) available on Nickelodeon platforms globally next year. “Monster High’s strong message of inclusivity is more relevant than ever,” said Fred Soulie, General Manager, Mattel Television. “Nickelodeon shares our passion for the brand and its purpose having worked on the franchise when it first launched more than a decade ago. They are the ideal partners to bring these beloved characters and their stories to life through episodic television and the live-action television movie.” “These classic monsters have always captured kids’ imaginations and we are so excited and proud to welcome Monster High to our brand for a new generation of kids,” said Ramsey Naito, President of Nickelodeon Animation. “We have terrific partners on board at Mattel to create original content in different formats, and, with the expertise of the Nick creative team helmed by Claudia Spinelli on the animation development side, and Zack Olin and Shauna Phelan on the live-action side, we can’t wait to showcase the comedy and adventure of these characters as they defy expectations and take on the world.” “We could not be more excited to work with Ramsey, Claudia, Zack, Shauna, our writers and the entire Nickelodeon animation and live-action teams to introduce Monster High to a new audience,” added Adam Bonnet, Executive Producer, Mattel Television. “This property has always resonated deeply with fans and our reimagination of the franchise will focus on addressing important themes of identity and empowerment for kids today.” The Monster High series and movie musical event join other Mattel Television content in production, including series and specials based on Barbie, Masters of the Universe, Thomas & Friends, Polly Pocket and Fireman Sam, to name a few. The forthcoming Monster High series and movie underscore a key element of Nickelodeon’s content strategy, to build and expand the worlds of enormously popular franchises such as Star Trek, SpongeBob SquarePants, Henry Danger, Big Nate and Real Pigeons Fight Crime among others, to give audiences more of what they love. Nickelodeon’s new content slate is informed by the network’s ongoing research and insights into today's generation of kids, who are the most diverse generation ever and expect to see themselves authentically represented in media and in the world around them; want to make a positive difference in the world as they grow up; consider social media stars as their top role models, alongside their parents; and increasingly meet their much-desired need for family time by co-viewing entertainment content together. Production on the Monster High animated TV series is overseen for Nickelodeon by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President, Animation Development. Shea Fontana (Polly Pocket, DC Super Hero Girls) is serving as the showrunner. Jenny Jaffe (Big Hero 6: The Series, Rugrats) and the writing team of Greg Erb and Jason Oremland (Princess and the Frog, Playmobil: The Movie) have been tapped to write the Monster High live-action television movie. Production on the Monster High movie for Nickelodeon is overseen by Zack Olin, Senior Vice President, Live-Action, and Shauna Phelan, Senior Vice President, Live-Action Scripted Content. Adam Bonnett, Executive Producer, and Christopher Keenan, Senior Vice President of Content Development, are overseeing the animated series for Mattel, and Bonnett is also overseeing the live-action movie for Mattel. Monster High was first introduced in 2010 with a global fanbase embracing its message of inclusivity. Beginning in 2022, Mattel will be refueling the franchise and introducing Monster High to a whole new generation of kids. • The Shofar the Mornings at 11 A.M
Jan/Feb Student Rabbi Ben Freed 2021 Tevet/ Shalom y’all, Shevat/ During January and the first half of February we will cover one of the most exciting stories ever Adar told during our weekly Torah readings. The story of Moses, the prince of Egypt who grew up to 5781 lead the Israelites out of slavery is so captivating that it has been recreated and re-told over and over again. It has been made into iconic movies by Cecil B. DeMille, Dreamworks, and—of course—The Rugrats. As Jews we focus on this story twice each year, once when we read it from the Torah in the winter and again in the spring around the seder table when we celebrate Passover. But there’s one thing about this story that makes it great for movies and TV specials but harder to use as a model for a healthy Jewish community. The problem with the story is that it is basically all about one person. Sure, there are plenty of great supporting characters—Pharoah, Aaron, and Miriam immediately come to mind—but there’s only one lead actor: Moses. To be clear, I don’t entirely blame Moses for this. When God appeared to him at the burning bush he took on the role reluctantly and tried to put someone else in the spotlight. However, once he took over, it’s clear that Moses had a difficult time trusting others and delegating responsibility. Not only does the narrative center around Moses, but he also has a tendency to centralize power and responsibility.

  • The Passover Quiz 2020-5780
THE PASSOVER QUIZ 2020-5780 The first Golden Shmura Matzah Award, 1982 This is the 40th year of this acclaimed quiz. Fifty years ago, when I was 20, I went to Israel for the summer after my junior year in college. And though I arranged to meet people along the way, I basically went by myself because going to Israel was my main focus, and my friends were uncertain if they would get there or spend much time there. I worked on a kibbutz for a month and traveled afterwards for 2 weeks. As Beva, who had been there the year before, told me it would be, it was a life altering experience. A few months ago, on the 50th anniversary of my trip I again went to Israel by myself. I joined a group – CAARI- of wonderful active retired individuals. We volunteered, we toured, we met with informed speakers and we ate a lot. This time it was a life reaffirming experience. The future of Judaism and the existence and security of Israel are basically one and the same. Am Yisrael Hai and M’deenat Yisrael Hai. Murray J. Berkowitz There is one correct answer to each question (I think). The person with the most correct answers wins the Golden Shmura Matzah Award. In case of a tie, the winner will be decided by the following tie-breaker: How many times has this author been to Israel and for how many total weeks? Answer key: 1.g. 2.b. 3.f. 4.a. 5.e. 6.f. 7.a.

Westrup (Eds.), Generation Z: Zombies, popular culture, and educating youth. New York: Springer. Girls, Ghouls, and Girlhoods: Horror and Fashion at Monster High Introduction How does a zombie doll in a popular horror franchise for tween girls serve as a productive site of contestation among overlapping visions of girlhood? In this chapter, I examine Ghoulia Yelps, a zombie character in the popular Monster High fashion doll franchise, not only as a toy in a global flow of licensed consumer goods but also as a site of identity construction and digital media production where facile notions of girlhoods are both enacted and reimagined (Forman- Brunell, 2012). Monster High is reconceptualized here as the site of converging cultural imaginaries (Medina & Wohlwend, 2014) in which children play in and out of gendered futures around fashion, adolescence, diversity, and schooling. Critical analysis of tween girls’ digital play with a zombie doll on social media reveals the resonances, slippages, and paradoxes among identity texts produced about, for, and by girls. After describing the scope of the Monster High franchise and how it materializes expectations for characters, consumers, and players, I next examine how these dolls and identity texts circulate three dominant imaginaries of girlhood.
