LEICA APO-SUMMICRON-MSUPER ELMAR-M 21mm 50 mm f/3.4 f/2 ASPH. ASPH. 1 More than 30 years after the launch of Summicron-M 1:2/50 mm, which is still available, the Leica APO Summicron-M 1:2/50 mm ASPH. represents a totally new development. With its compact body - only marginally longer and slightly heavier than the Summicron-M 1:2/50 mm, and with an almost identical diameter, it provides visibly higher image quality. On the Leica APO Summicron-M 1:2/50 mm ASPH. the exceptional correction enables all aberrations to be reduced to a minimum level that is negli- gible in digital photography. Its key features include excellent contrast rendition, all the way to the corners of the image, even with a fully open aperture. The use of a „floating element“ ensures that this is retained, even for close-up shots. Vignetting is limited to a maximum - i.e. in the corners of the image - of just 2 stops at full aperture in 35 mm format, or around 1 on the Leica M8 mo- dels. Stopping down to 2.8 visibly reduces this light deterioration towards the edge of the image, with practically only the natural vignetting remaining. Distortion is very low at a maximum of just 0.4 % (pin cushoin), which is practically imperceptible. A total of eight lens elements are used to achieve this exceptional performance. To realize the apochromatic correction (resulting in a com- mon focusing plane for three light wavelengths), three are made of glass types with high anomalous partial color dispersion, while two of the others have a high refractive index. -

Press information Leica presents the TL-System: The new camera system impresses with perfected features, unique design, precise, high-performance lenses and a range of functional accessories and technical equipment. Wetzlar, 8 November 2016. Building on the Leica T camera system, which has been continually advanced in terms speed, ease of handling and flexibility since its launch in 2014, the Leica TL embraces all the perfected features and leads the innovative camera concept into a new generation with even more innovations and new aspects of its design. One of these innovations is the doubling of the size of its internal buffer memory to 32 GB. Other new features are improved autofocus, especially in AF-C mode, and optimised compatibility with lenses from other Leica camera systems. For instance, the Leica TL now supports SL-Lenses with OIS and allows the use of Leica R-System lenses in combination with the R-Adapter L. A new Leica TL app with revised functions offers additional options for sharing pictures by email or on social networks and is now available for the first time for Android as well as iOS devices. The Leica TL will in available in three colour options from the date of launch: the silver and black versions are identical in design and construction, while the titanium-coloured option is distinguished by a bevelled edge (chamfer) to the top and bottom plates. Functional camera accessories, such as the new high-quality protectors in Nappa leather, which can stay on the camera when changing the battery, and colour-coordinated carrying straps in stone-grey, black, red and cemento, round off the TL system portfolio. -

LEICA SUPER ELMARM 1:3,4/21mm ASPH. 1 With the LEICA SUPER-ELMAR 21 mm f/3.4 ASPH., Leica is extending the range of M lenses in the super wide angle range with a model that combines outstanding reproduction with a compact design. It delivers uniformly excellent reproduction quality over the entire fi eld of view, with only a very slight deterioration at the edges in the close-up range. This performance can only be improved slightly by stopping down, which means that you can take photo- graphs with full stop with no concerns, unless your compositional ideas call for a greater extension of the depth of fi eld that can only be achieved with smaller apertures. The vignetting characteristic of every optical system is more pronounced on a super wide-angle lens than on normal lenses and those with long focal lengths. At full stop in 35mm format it is a maximum, i.e. in the corners of the image, of around 2,1 stops, around 1,2 stops on Leica M8 models with their slightly smaller format. Stopping down to f/5.6 reduces this light falloff at the edge of the image – to 1.6 and 1.0 stops respectively. Stopping down further does not result in any further reduction as essenti- ally only the natural vignetting remains. The maximum distortion of the lens of around 1.5 % is hardly perceptible. The retrofocus-like construction is made up of a total of eight lens elements, and the use of a lens element with two aspherical surfaces and four lens elements made of glass types with anomalous color dispersion (partial dispersion) make a crucial contri- bution towards restricting aberrations to an absolute minimum. -

di Giuseppe Ciccarella Nel 1933 la Ernst Leitz GmbH Wetzlar propone sul mercato il 90/4 Elmar. L©idea era quella di avere un ªtele-tascabileº. Di anni, da allora, ne sono passati e durante il lungo cammino, la Leitz ha rimpolpato il suo carnet con diversi tele da 90mm. Con l©aumentare della luminosità sono aumentati, di pari passo, dimensioni e pesi. Il 90mm Elmar ha continuato a fornire, come punto di forza, la compattezza, mentre nel 1954 ªvede la luceº la versione collassabile per Leica M3, con lo stesso disegno, quattro lenti in tre gruppi. Nel 1963 esordisce la versione ªtre lentiº. Anche se le prestazioni sono eccellenti, la luminosità f/4 è però un po limitante e la versione Elmarit f/2.8, cinque lenti in tre gruppi, del 1959, colma il gap, fornendo inoltre ottime prestazioni. Le lunghe dimensioni dell©oggetto, però, poco affascinano gli utenti. Nel 1965 spariglia le carte il solito Dr. Walter Mandler, che già aveva firmato il ªtre lentiº. ªL©arsenale d©ideeº Leitz di Midland propone il 90 f/2.8 Tele-Elmarit, un cinque lenti in cinque gruppi, poi denominato dal volgo: ªfatº; grasso. Compatto e di lunghezza fisica inferiore alla lunghezza focale. E© un gran successo, anche perchè le prestazioni sono ottime e chi vuole avere una alternativa di luminosità superiore, deve optare per il Summicron 90 f/2, sempre Mandler Made, anche se il peso, di quasi 700g e le dimensioni, rappresentano lo scotto da pagare per coloro che hanno necessità della apertura massima relativa f/2. Il Leitz Summicron 90 f/2 è a tuttoggi un ottimo obiettivo. -

It offers exce lent image performance over the entire image field even at full aperture and in the close-up range thanks to a „floating element“. With its exceptional contrast, the lens delivers the same recognized high performance level as the Leica Sum- milux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH., and in some respects actually outperforms it. The vignetting that is typical of every optical system is naturally more defined on a wide angle lens, particularly a high speed one like this, than on standard lenses or those with a long focal length. At full aperture in 35mm format it is a maximum, i.e. in the corners of the image, of around 3.4 stops, around 2 stops on Leica M8 models with their slightly smaller format. Stopping down to 5.6 visibly reduces this light falloff – to 1.8 and 0.8 stops respectively. Stopping down further does not bring about any notable reduction as essentially only the natural vignetting remains. Distortion is extremely low for a wide angle lens at a ma- ximum of 1.1% , which is rarely noticeable in practice. A total of ten lens elements are used to achieve this exceptional performance. To correct color defects, seven of these are made of glass types with anomalous partial dispersion, while one has an aspherical surface. To maintain performance in the close-up range, one element towards the rear of the optical system is a “floating element” that moves independently of the rest of the mechanism.
